ADJUSTING VANOS
5. Slacken the securing bolt on each camshaft adjuster (Fig.5)
and turn the camshafts until the tool (3) can be fitted correctly
into place.
PRE-TENSION THE TIMING CHAIN
6. Remove the timing chain tensioner assembly (Fig.6).
7. Fit the tool (4) and screw in the adjusting screw until it comes
into contact with the timing chain tensioner rail. Do not over
tighten the adjusting screw. Pre-tension the timing chain by
tightening the pre-tensioning tool to required torque.
8. Tighten the securing bolt on each camshaft adjuster to required torque / degree.
9. Remove all tools and install the timing chain tensioner.
10. Turn the crankshaft two revolutions in a clockwise direction and recheck the engine timing, ensure
that the tools can be fitted.
11. Once the timing is proved to be correct, remove all tools and reassemble the engine as required.
Note: If additional work involving the balancer shaft or oil pump drive is required, additional tools will
be required.
