Make sure bumper is clean, dry, and free of debris. Use a cleaner that will remove oil/grease to clean bumper surface for proper tape
adhesion. Optimal temperature for installing tape used on your BumperShellz™ is 20°C (68°F) to 38°C (100°F) and
(60°F). If ambient temperature is below 15°C, a hair dryer or heat gun may be used at your discretion to warm bumper surface.
BumperShellz™ should be acclimated at "room temperature" prior to installation.
If your bumper has any significant pre-existing dents, you may want to remove the bumper and try to pound some of these out. Small
dings and rust can usually be directly covered by BumperShellz™ if trim lines between plastic trim/step pad and exposed steel bumper
are in their original shape. A distorted bumper will negatively affect the fit of your BumperShellz™.
Your BumperShellz™ are assembled to your bumper by tucking the perimeter flange under the existing plastic trim pieces. In order to
facilitate this attachment, it is usually sufficient to lift the edge of the trim in these areas with a non-scratching
pry tool and progressively sliding the flange underneath the trim. In some cases, it may be necessary to
loosen/disengage trim where there are geometric constraints to sliding the flange under the trim. The plastic
trim is usually held to the bumper with snap fits and clips. The clips can usually be removed by prying on them
with a trim tool, and/or using pliers to grab the head of the clip and pulling it out. It is possible these clips could
be damaged when removing them. Replacement clips are available at auto parts stores.
There are snap fit attachments molded in to your trim pieces, so it is important you use care in disengaging snap
fits from the bumper to avoid damaging the trim piece. These can usually be removed by a combination of
squeezing the snap fit with pliers from the underside of bumper and using a prying device between the trim
piece and bumper from above. Some of these can be hard to reach. The trim just needs to be loosened enough
to allow BumperShell flanges to be tucked under the edge without damaging the BumperShell. In many cases
this only requires lifting the edge without disengaging the snap fits.
Peel backing off the tape on the inside corner surface of your BumperShell. Lift the trim/step pad at the corner
sufficiently to slide the BumperShell in to place without putting too much stress on the flanges, like using a
shoehorn. Try to avoid putting much pressure on taped areas until sure the BumperShell is in its proper position.
Tuck opposite end flange under center trim piece. This can be done by slightly lifting the edge of trim with your
non-scratching prying device. Tuck remaining BumperShellz™ flanges by gently and progressively prying up the
edge of trim and sliding flange underneath. Do not use excessive force, as this may damage your BumperShellz™
and/or trim. If the BumperShell is not going on with reasonable effort, a flange is probably hung up somewhere.
If factory reverse sensors are present, clearance holes have been provided. Some slight positioning adjustment
may be needed to center the sensor within the cut-out holes
If disengaged/removed, snap the trim pieces back down and replace the clips, making sure the BumperShellz™
remain in the proper position at all times.
Remove backing from tape along bottom edge of BumperShell and press all taped areas firmly against the bumper.
Care for your BumperShellz™ like you would any fine paint finish. Use high quality cleaning products designed specifically for car care.
Gloss finishes: Often times, minor scratches can be buffed out on the gloss finishes. Rubbing compounds can be used with a mechanical
buffer, for deeper scratches.
Matte finishes are much more susceptible to abrasions, leaving a "glossy sheen" on the finish, which are generally permanent. Do not
attempt to buff out scratches/abrasions on your matte finish, as this will generally make the damage worse. Avoid excessive friction when
trying to remove anything stuck to the matte finish surface and keep cleaning rags/water clean and abrasive free. Aggressive brush-type
car washes are not recommended, as they can abrade the matte finish. Brushless car washes are acceptable.
