Electronic brake fluid tester EBT 03
The EBT 03 permits the testing of the boiling point and water content of various types of brake fluid, e.g. DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 4 Plus and
DOT 5.1.
The tester is process controlled and menu assisted by way of the display, with the result that the testing process is carried out automatically.
Safety precautions
The tester may only be used by suitably trained personnel.
!
Caution: Brake fluid is corrosive. Care should therefore be taken to prevent contact with the skin, the eyes
and clothing.
Care should also be taken to prevent brake fluid from coming into contact with the vehicle's paintwork,
which could otherwise suffer demage.
The safety instructions laid down by the brake fluid manufaturers must be followed.
Important notes:
. The EBT 03 is only suitable for testing brake fluids.
. In order to function-test the EBT 03 itself, however, the probe can also be immersed in clean tap water. In this case, the choice of brake
fluid in the menu is of no significance.
. If other fluids are tested, a result will be in fact be displayed, but this will be of no significance.
. If the measuring result is below 130 °C boiling temp. "Siedetemp: <130 °C" is displayed.
Before use:
Open the battery compartment at the back of the tester and install a 9 V monobloc battery.
Test procedure:
1. Switch on the instrument by pressing the ON/OFF button (4).
Note: To save the battery, only switch on the display backlighting when necessitated by the ambient light conditions.
2. The DOT specification to be checked (DOT 3, DOT 4, etc.) is selected with the Down key and is confirmed with the ON/OFF key. A brake
fluid manufacturer (e.g. DOT 4 Bosch) must be selected within this specification. If the manufacturer is unknown, then the selection
"DOT..universal" can be used.
If "DOT..universal" is selected, it should be noted that the measuring accuracy decreases depending on the water content for technical rea-
sons. The lower the water content, the greater the difference.
3. Note: If you have inadvertently selected and confirmed an incorrect DOT specification, you can return to the menu by pressing
the ESC key (2).
4. With the ON/OFF button, confirm the "Clean sensor" display after the sensor has been cleaned.
5. With the ON/OFF button, confirm the "Zero point is aligned" display.
6. The EBT 03 is now ready for use. Testing starts automatically when the sensor (5) is immersed in the brake fluid.
Note: Immerse the sensor at least as far as the mark (6) and keep it immersed during the entire testing process.
7. After approx. 3 seconds, the test result will be displayed in the form of the boiling temperature in °C and water content in %.
These statements as to the condition of the brake fluid are only recommendations. In any case, the manufacturer's
instructions must also be followed.
8. To carry out a further test, press any key. With this repeat function, the previously selected brake fluid will appear on the screen. Either
confirm this or select another and continue at point (4).
9. If no test is carried out for a period of 1 minute, the tester will switch off automatically.
Low battery display:
If the battery power falls below a specified voltage, the message "Low batt" will appear and the battery symbol will flash. To prevent a faulty
test result, the tester will remain in this mode and switch off automatically after 1 minute.
In this case, the battery must be replaced by a new, charged battery.
