Always wear SAFETY GLASSES
when installing hitch
1. Lower exhaust – a.) Using 10mm socket, remove (1) bolt from rearward driver exhaust hanger. Repeat step for passenger side. NOTE: Disconnect sensor on
passenger side exhaust prior to lowering.
b.) Using 16mm socket, remove (2) bolts from mid vehicle exhaust hanger. Set aside for later use.
2. Remove/Trim heat shield/Reinstall – a.) Using 8mm socket, remove (5) screws from underside of vehicle. (3) are found near the center fascia, others found near
exhaust (1) per side. Then remove (4) nuts from the center of the heat shield using the same socket. Gently remove and set aside for later use.
b.) Using tin snips, trim heat shield as shown in Figure 2. Reinstall the heat shield after trimming using (4) nuts and (3) screws removed in previous steps.
NOTE: Remaining (2) screws will not be used.
3. Remove frame rail hardware – Using T25 star driver, remove (1) screw from driver frame rail. Repeat for passenger side.
4. Drill holes – Raise the hitch into position and align it with two foremost attachment holes. Use marker to mark a drill point at 2
both sides. Make sure the hitch sits straight with location marked. Lower the hitch down and use drill to drill a ½" hole, both sides.
5. Install hitch - Using pull wire, feed the carriage bolts and spacers into frame rails and bracket holes from forward most frame rail hole. Raise hitch into position
and align holes with holes in frame rail. Remove pull wires and loosely install M8 bolts, conical washers, flat washers and hex nuts to hitch, see Figure 1.
6. Tighten all 1/2-13 Gr5 fasteners with torque wrench to 75 Lb.-Ft. (102 N*M). Tighten all M8 fasteners with torque wrench to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M)
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
7. Reinstall exhaust and sensor – Raise exhaust back into position and secure sensor in place using original hardware removed in step 1.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should
be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
