Guardian with Smart Sense™
Signal Conditioner
The conditioner receives the incoming electrical signal
from the building's environment control and then ampli-
fi es it to allow operation of the heater's variable rate
gas control valve.
This component operates off of 24 VAC received from
the transformer in the heaters control box.
If the transformer does not supply 24 VAC to the condi-
tioner, or if the conditioner is defective, the variable rate
gas control will operate at minimum heat output only.
(See data plate or page 4 of this manual for minimum
output, depending on model.)

Ignition Control (HSI)
The control sends and receives voltages to operate or
verify operation of components. Refer to the following
and Fig. 19 to understand the ignition control's terminal
designators if doing voltage checks on the control.
IND: 120 VAC from control to motor
L1: 120 VAC to control
HSI: 120 VAC to hot surface igniter
HSIG: Neutral return of igniter
L2: Neutral of control
W: 24 VAC input from 40 VAC transformer (without this
voltage the ignition control will not function)
PSI: 24 VAC from control to air proving switch
FSI: Microamperage from control to fl ame sensor
GV: 24 VAC from control to high limit and then to gas
control valve.
PSO: 24 VAC return from air proving switch back to
control
FSG: Ground of fl ame sensor
C: Ground for control

Like the controller for the hot surface igntion heat-
