Before beginning ensure that concrete floor is sound and in good condition. New concrete
should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days prior to coating. Cracks, spalls, divots,
etc. should be repaired prior to coating with PERMAGUARD
PERMAGUARD MAX cannot be applied to wet or moist concrete. Test for the presence of
moisture in the slab prior to coating. If moisture is present, use PERMAGUARD Moisture
Seal and Concrete Densifier (sold separately) prior to coating.
Surface Preparation (Concrete):
Thoroughly clean and sweep area to be coated.
n
If present, remove all grease, oils and other contaminants that may impede adhesion
n
using PERMAGUARD Cleaner and Degreaser (sold separately).
Mix provided packet of Concrete Cleaner and Etch with 2 gallons of clean water in a
n
pump sprayer or watering can.
Evenly apply the mixed solution across the floor, working in 10' x 10' sections. Keep the
™
n
MAX
surface wet and scrub vigorously with a stiff bristle brush.
Once cleaned, thoroughly rinse the floor with clean water. Broom or squeegee off any
n
standing water or excess material.
Allow floor to completely dry. Rub your hand across the floor, feeling for the presence of
n
white dust or powder. If present, re-rinse with clean water and squeegee floor to remove
excess. Allow floor to dry and retest. Repeat if necessary.
Note: Failure to properly clean and prepare the floor may cause the coating to not
adhere properly.
Surface Preparation (Previously Coated Floors):
PERMAGUARD MAX may be applied directly to previously epoxy coated floors. Existing
n
coating should be well adhered to the substrate. Remove any loose or peeling sections with
a wire brush.
Sand and scuff the entire area to be coated. When complete the surface should have a dull
n
appearance with no gloss.
Thoroughly clean and sweep to remove any dust or debris. Wipe surface with denatured
n
alcohol or acetone.
Note: Failure to properly clean and prepare the floor may cause the coating to not
adhere properly.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD
IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS SUCH AS BRAIN
DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up
Epoxy Patch (sold separately).

Mixing:
Mix only one unit at a time.
n
Components are provided in pre-measured parts. Do not dilute or alter.
n
Pour entire contents of Part B into Part A can, scraping the sides to ensure no material remains.
n
Using the provided stir stick, mix combined Part A and B by hand for 2-3 minutes until a
n
uniform color and consistency is achieved.
Once mixed, the product must be applied within the specified working times.
n
Note: Surfaces coated with PERMAGUARD MAX may become slippery when wet.
PERMAGUARD Traction Additive (sold separately) may be added for additional traction.
Application:
Immediately after mixing, transfer material to a metal paint tray.
n
Cut in around the perimeter and any penetrations, columns or other obstructions.
n
Using a ¼" nap roller designed for epoxies, coat the floor working in 4' x 4' sections.
n
Evenly work the material into the floor making sure not to allow the product to puddle.
Leave a 1 ft wet edge to avoid lap marks.
If desired, scatter the provided decorative chips by hand in a rainfall pattern. For heavier
n
chip patterns, additional PERMAGUARD Decorative chips may be purchased separately.
Notes: Porous slabs may require additional material or coats.
To ensure consistent final appearance, coat the floor evenly and apply within the stated
working times.
