GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS
AND PRECAUTIONS
WORKING IN SAFETY!
• CAUTION! – For personal safety it is important to observe these instruc-
tions.
• CAUTION! – Important safety instructions: Keep these instructions in a
safe place.
• CAUTION! – All product installation, connection, testing, commission-
ing and maintenance operations must be performed exclusively by a
qualified and skilled technician.
Caution! – Observe the following warnings:
• Never apply modifications to any part of the device. Operations other than as
specified can only cause malfunctions. The manufacturer declines all liability for
damage caused by makeshift modifications to the product.
• Do not immerse the charge unit or batteries in water or other fluids. If liquids
penetrate the device interior, disconnect it immediately from the automation and
contact the Nice Assistance Service; use of the device in these conditions con-
stitutes a hazard.
• Never place the device near sources of heat and never expose to naked flames.
This may damage the unit and cause malfunctions.
• Disconnect the system from the power mains before installing and con-
necting the batteries and charge unit.
• Before installing the charge unit and batteries, check the condition of the pro-
duct components and suitability of the selected model with reference to the
"product technical specifications".
• If in any doubt regarding installation, do not proceed and contact the Nice Tech-
nical Assistance for clarifications.
• The product packaging material must be disposed of in full observance of cur-
rent local legislation governing waste disposal.
• In the event of periods of disuse, disconnect it from the automation and store in
a dry location to avoid the risk of leaks of harmful substances.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND
INTENDED USE
This product is a charge unit used as an interface for hooking up VRLA 12V 7A/h
(Nice art. B12-B) rechargeable sealed lead acid batteries in automations for gates
and garage doors using Nice control units. CAUTION! – Any use other than as
described herein is to be considered improper and is strictly prohibited!
The system supplies emergency power to an automation in the event of a sudden
power failure.
When the battery is charged it can guarantee automation autonomy of approx.
10 manoeuvres. Other characteristics are provided in the chapter "Product Tech-
nical Specifications".

INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION
Install and connect the system with reference to the instruction manual of the
automation to which it is to be connected.
To connect the PS524 charge unit to the two batteries, refer to fig. 1: use the cable
with the Faston connectors (make sure the cable colours and +/- polarity of the
connections match as indicated (red +; black -).
To connect the PS524 charge card to the control unit, refer to fig. 2: use the pro-
vided cable. Caution! - The cable is not polarised and therefore can be con-
nected to the connectors on either side.

TESTING AND COMMISSIONING
The following checks must be performed immediately after connecting the buffer
battery to the control unit.
1 on the charge unit: ensure that led "L2" (fig. 3) is lit; this indicates that the
battery is supplying power to the system.
On the Control unit: ensure that the leds indicate correct operation of the
control unit.
If the result is not positive the batteries are probably completely drained. At
this point, with the automation powered by the mains, perform the operation
described in point "2". Important – Wait a few hours before repeating the
operation check.
2 Connect the automation to the electrical mains and ensure that charge unit led
"L1" (fig. 3) is lit; this indicates that the battery is recharging correctly.
3 Run a complete Opening or Closing manoeuvre of the automation to ensure
correct operation of the entire system when powered by the mains.
4 Disconnect the automation from the mains and check that charge unit led "L2"
(fig. 3) is lit; then run at least one complete Opening and Closing manoeuvre
of the automation to check that the entire system operates correctly when
powered by the batteries alone.
5 At the end of the above checks, reconnect the automation to the power mains.
DISPOSAL OF THE PRODUCT
This product constitutes an integral part of the automation system,
therefore it must be disposed of along with it.
As in installation, also at the end of product lifetime, the disassembly and scrap-
ping operations must be performed by qualified personnel.
This product is made up of different types of material, some of which can be
recycled while others must be disposed of. Seek information on the recycling and
disposal systems envisaged by the local regulations in your area for this product
category.
Caution! – some parts of the product may contain pollutant or hazardous sub-
stances which, if disposed of into the environment, may cause serious damage to
the environment or physical health.
As indicated by the symbol on the left, disposal of this product
in domestic waste is strictly prohibited. Separate the waste into
categories for disposal, according to the methods envisaged
by current legislation in your area, or return the product to the
retailer when purchasing a new version.
Caution! – Local legislation may envisage serious fines in the
event of abusive disposal of this product.
PRODUCT MAINTENANCE
The buffer battery does not require maintenance, but in the event of prolonged
disuse, disconnect from the automation and store in a dry location.
Replacement of batteries is required when autonomy is significantly reduced due
to age. This operation may only be performed by qualified technical personnel;
contact NICE for assistance.
