TEMPORAL RELATION OF THE RESULTS
• One ought to distinguish sudden changes over a few days, medium-term
variations (over weeks) and long-term variations (months).
• As a general rule, it can be considered that short-term weight variations are
mainly brought about by changes in water content, while medium and
long-term ones usually also involve fat and muscle mass.
• If the weight decreases in the short term while the fat mass increases or
remains stable, it is probably a loss of fluids, e.g. due to training, sauna or diet
only aimed at rapid weight loss.
• If the weight increases in the medium term while the fat mass decreases or
remains stable, an increase in muscle mass may have occurred.
• If the weight and fat mass decrease at the same time, it means that one is
losing weight.
• Fat mass, water percentage or muscle mass cannot be added (muscle tissues
also contain a water percentage).
