2 Safety Notes
This appliance corresponds to the directive for elec-
tromagnetic compatibility 89/336/EEC and the low
voltage directive 73/23/EEC.
This unit uses dangerous mains voltage (230 V~).
To prevent a shock hazard do not open the cabinet.
Leave servicing to authorized skilled personnel
only. Furthermore, any guarantee claim expires if
the unit has been opened.
Always watch the following items regarding the
operation:
•
With this charger only nickel cadmium recharge-
able batteries must be charged. Dry batteries are
not rechargeable and may leak or explode when
trying to recharge them!
•
The unit is designed for use inside dry rooms only.
•
Protect the unit against humidity and heat (permis-
sible operating temperature range 0-40 °C).
•
Do not take the unit into operation and immediately
take the mains plug out of the mains socket if:
1. damage at the unit or mains cable can be seen,
2. a defect might have occurred after a drop or
similar accident,
3. there are malfunctions.
The unit must in any case be repaired by author-
ized skilled personnel.
•
A damaged mains cable must only be repaired by
the manufacturer or authorized skilled personnel.
•
Never pull the mains plug out of the mains socket
by means of the mains cable.

•
If the unit is used for purposes other than originally
intended, if it is operated in the wrong way or not
repaired by authorized skilled personnel, there is
no liability for possible damage.

chemicals or water.
•
Important for U. K. Customers!
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accord-
ance with the following code:
blue = neutral, brown = live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this
appliance may not correspond with the coloured
markings identifying the terminals in your plug, pro-
ceed as follows:
1. The wire which is coloured blue must be con-
nected to the terminal in the plug which is mark-
ed with the letter N or coloured black.
2. The wire which is coloured brown must be con-
nected to the terminal which is marked with the
letter L or coloured red.

3 Applications
With the charger/discharger rechargeable NiCad bat-
teries of the following sizes can rapidly be charged:
2 pcs. of D size
2 pcs. of C size
2 or 4 pcs. of AA size or
2 or 4 pcs. of AAA size, in addition
1 or 2 rechargeable 9 V block batteries.
To keep the full capacity of the rechargeable batteries
for a long time, a remaining charge of the batteries
can be discharged prior to charging (except re-
chargeable 9 V block batteries). By this the "memory"
effect is avoided.
4 Testing of Rechargeable Batteries
1) Connect the mains plug to the mains socket
(230 V~/50 Hz).
2) Set the right sliding switch (5) to the TEST/RESET
position. The green control lamp (2) is lighting.
3) Insert a rechargeable battery in the compartment
exactly on the right (11), with the positive and
negative poles as printed in the unit.
4) If the rechargeable battery is fully charged, the
right lamp (6) is lighting brightly. The darker the
lamp is lighting, the more the rechargeable battery
is discharged. With the rechargeable battery com-
pletely discharged, the lamp does not light at all.
5 Discharging of Rechargeable Batteries
To keep the full capacity of the rechargeable batteries
for a long time, a remaining charge of the batteries
should be discharged prior to every charging.
1) Insert a rechargeable battery in the charging com-
partment exactly on the right (11), with the posi-
tive and negative poles as printed in the unit.
2) Set the right sliding switch (5) to the DISCHARGE
position.
3) After approx. 10 minutes set the switch (5) to the
TEST/RESET position to check if the recharge-
able battery has completely been discharged. The
right lamp (6) must not light. If it is still dimly
lighting, continue to discharge the rechargeable
battery, i. e. repeat the items 2 and 3.
6 Charging of Rechargeable Batteries
The rechargeable batteries must be suitable for a
quick charging. This can be seen from the lettering on
the rechargeable battery, e. g. "quick charge".
It is recommended to charge only rechargeable
batteries which have completely been discharged
(see paragraphs 4 "Testing of Rechargeable Batte-
ries" and 5 "Discharging of Rechargeable Batteries").
1) Choose the type and number of the rechargeable
batteries with the left sliding switch (4):

2 x C/D
2 pcs. of C

2) Only rechargeable batteries of the same type can
be charged according to the number stated above,
except rechargeable 9 V block batteries. One or
two rechargeable 9 V block batteries can be
charged together with the battery types given in
the table. Insert the rechargeable batteries, with
the positive and negative poles as printed in the
unit. For this draw back the contact springs
manually. To charge two rechargeable batteries
(D, C, AA, or AAA sizes) always insert one of them
in the charging compartment exactly on the left
(8) because the temperature for the protection of
the rechargeable batteries is controlled there. With
rechargeable 9 V batteries watch the positions of
the connecting contacts in the charging shaft (7).
3) Prior to every charging at first set the right sliding
switch (5) shortly to the TEST/RESET position to
reset the built-in time control to zero.
4) Set the right sliding switch (5) to the CHARGE posi-
tion. Above every charging compartment there is a
red control lamp (1) which is lighting while the res-
pective rechargeable battery is being recharged. If
it does not light, the rechargeable battery is defec-
tive or has been inserted in the wrong way.
5) With the rechargeable batteries fully charged, the
charging process is switched off. The yellow con-
trol lamp (3) is lighting up, and all other lamps
extinguish.
Attention! Rechargeable 9 V block batteries must
be taken out of the charger after max. 6 hours of
charging time as there is no switching off and no
indication of charging end for this battery type. A
longer charging time will cause damage to these
rechargeable batteries.
6) To charge further rechargeable batteries, at first
set the right sliding switch (5) shortly to the
TEST/RESET position to reset the built-in time
control to zero.
7) After charging remove the mains plug out of the
mains socket and take out the recharged batteries.
