IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTION FOR DRILL PRESS
• MAKE SURE there are no nails or foreign objects in the
part of the workpiece to be drilled.
• CLAMP THE WORKPIECE OR BRACE IT against the
left side of the column to prevent rotation. If it is too
short or the table is tilted, clamp it solidly to the table.
• IF THE WORKPIECE overhangs the table such that it
will fall or tip if not held, clamp it to the table or provide
auxiliary support.
• SECURE THE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold the
work when practical. It's safer than using your hand and
it frees both hands to operate tool.
• WHEN using a drill press vise, always fasten to the table.
• MAKE SURE all clamps and locks are firmly tightened
before drilling.
• SECURELY LOCK THE HEAD and table support to the
column, and the table to the table support before
operating the drill press.
• NEVER turn your drill press on before clearing the table
of all objects (tools, scraps of wood, etc.)
• BEFORE STARTING the operation, jog the motor switch
to make sure the drill bit does not wobble or vibrate.
• LET THE SPINDLE REACH FULL SPEED before
starting to drill. If your drill press makes an unfamiliar
noise or if it vibrates excessively, stop immediately, turn
the drill press off and unplug. If do not restart the unit
until the problem is corrected.
• DO NOT perform layout assembly or set up work on the
table while the drill press is in operation.
• USE THE RECOMMENDED SPEED for any drill press
accessory and for different workpiece material. READ
THE INSTRUCTIONS that come with the accessory.
• WHEN DRILLING large diameter holes, clamp the
workpiece firmly to the table. Otherwise, the bit may grap
and spin the workpiece at high speeds. DO NOT USE
fly cutters or multiple-part hole cutters, as they can come
apart or become unbalanced in use.
• MAKE SURE the spindle has come to a complete stop
before touching the workpiece.
• TO AVOID INJURY from accidental starting, always turn
the switch "OFF" and unplug the drill press before
installing or removing any accessory or attachment or
making any adjustment.
• KEEP GUARDS IN PLACE and in working order.
• USE ONLY THE SELF-EJECTING TYPE CHUCK KEY
as provided with the drill press.
WARNING
TO AVOID BEING PULLED INTO THE SPINNING
TOOL - Tie back long hair and roll long sleeves above
elbows. Drum sanders must never be operated on this
drill press at a speed greater than the speed rating of
the drum sander.
WARNING
Feed workpiece into a sanding drum or other approved
accessory, against the direction of rotation.
WARNING
A kickback occurs when workpiece suddenly binds on
the cutting edge of the tool and the workpiece is thrown
by the cutter in the direction of the cutter's rotation.
This can cause serious injury.
WARNING
Do not allow familiarity (gained from frequent use of
your drill press) to become commonplace. Always
remember that a careless fraction of a second is
sufficient to inflict severe injury.
WARNING
Some dust created by power sanding, sawing,
grinding, drilling, and other construction activities
contains chemicals known to the State of California
to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive
harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
• lead from lead-based paints,
• crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other
masonry products, and
• arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated
lumber.
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on
how often you do this type of work. To reduce your
exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated
area, and work with approved safety equipment, such
as those dust masks that are specially designed to filter
out microscopic particles.
• Avoid prolonged contact with dust from power
sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other
construction activities. Wear protective clothing
and wash exposed areas with soap and water.
Allowing dust to get into your mouth, eyes, or lay on
the skin may promote absorption of harmful
chemicals.
WARNING
Use of this tool can generate and/or disperse dust,
which may cause serious and permanent respiratory
or other injury. Always use NIOSH/OSHA approved
respiratory protection appropriate for the dust
exposure. Direct particles away from face and body.
• Wear appropriate hearing protection during use.
Under some conditions and duration of use, noise
from this product may contribute to hearing loss.
WARNING
ALWAYS use safety glasses. Everyday eye glasses
are NOT safety glasses. Also use face or dust mask
if cutting operation is dusty. ALWAYS WEAR
CERTIFIED SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
• ANSI Z87.1 eye protection (CAN/CPA Z94.3),
• ANSI S12.6 (S3.19) hearing protection,
• NIOSH/OSHA respiratory protection.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR LASER
Laser radiation, avoid direct eye exposure, serious eye injury
can result.
• Do not use optical tools such as a telescope or transit to
view the laser beam.
• Position the laser so unintentional eye contact will be
avoided.
