Dust Extraction (fi g. 10)
1. Insert the bolts (q) into the holes (r) in the
dust extraction adapter from the inside and
temporarily tighten the wing nuts (s).
2. Slide the adapter onto the dust extraction outlet.
3. Tighten the wing nuts.
4. Connect the dust extractor to the adapter.
5. Whenever possible, connect a dust extraction
device designed in accordance with the relevant
regulations regarding dust emission.

Proper Hand Position (fi g. 8)

Proper hand position requires one hand on the side
handle (y), with the other hand on the main grip (z).
Switching On and Off (fi g. 1a)
1. To run the tool, press the On/Off switch (a).
2. To stop the tool, release the switch.
WARNING: Do not switch the tool
on or off when the blade touches the
workpiece or other materials.
Grooving
CUTTING GROOVES FOR
BISCUIT DOWELS (FIG. 5)
1. Adjust the cutting depth as described above.
2. Ensure that the star knob (f) is tightly fastened.
3. Guide the tool parallel to the workpiece.
GROOVING VENEERED AND EXOTIC WOOD PANELS
When grooving veneered and exotic wood panels,
use of the cutting insert is recommended to prevent
splintering (fig. 4).
1. Mount the cutting insert as described above.
2. Set the required cutting width.
3. Press the tool to a piece of soft wood and
carefully plunge the blade down through the
insert to produce a suitable slot in the insert.
USING THE PARALLEL FENCE (FIG. 1a)
The parallel fence is used to groove parallel to the
edge of the workpiece.
1. Mount the parallel fence as described above.
2. Set the parallel fence to the correct distance.
USING THE END MARKS (FIG. 7)
The end marks (k) are especially useful when
working on narrow workpieces and edges. The tool
is positioned by aligning the mark (k) with the edge
of the workpiece.
Scribing
PARALLEL SCRIBING (FIG. 8)
The DW685K is ideal for parallel scribing on wall and
ceiling panels.
1. For deeper cuts and for veneered panels, install
a 30-tooth TCT trimming blade.
2. Adjust the depth of cut.
3. Set the motor housing roughly parallel to the
surface of the workpiece.
4. Carefully guide the tool to perform the cut.
SCRIBING UP TO A CORNER (FIG. 1b, 9)
For optimum results and ease of use while scribing
up to a corner, proceed as follows:
1. Slacken the star knob (f).
2. Set the tool at a right angle to the base.
3. Tighten the star knob.
4. Press the rear edge of the tool base against the
wall or cornice and plunge the groover into the
workpiece.
