The Surrounder's technology

Conventional surround systems ...
... include four or even five loudspeakers which make these systems difficult to install –
especially in small rooms. Furthermore, bulky speakers and a spaghetti of wires are
difficult to hide and the hardware can dominate your living room.
... have to be operated at higher volume levels in order that you can fully enjoy the sound
effects: but your neighbours may not be too happy about this!
The Surrounder creates a virtual room around your head
The Sennheiser Surrounder brings the loudspeakers closer to you ears: large speakers and
high volumes are not necessary. Even at low volumes a subjectively high sound pressure
is achieved – without disturbing others!
The Surrounder's rounded design and the special loudspeaker arrangement integrate (via
direct and reflected sound) not only your ears but also the acoustic characteristics of your
head to create the impression of full three-dimensional sound.
The Surrounder's rear speakers are larger and mainly reproduce the lower frequencies.
This has no influence on the spatial impression, as the direction of low-frequency sound
cannot be determined by the human ear. The higher frequencies – which are important for
creating the three-dimensional impression – are reproduced by the Surrounder's front
speakers. Therefore, the front speakers can be smaller in order to not obstruct the TV
screen.
Due to its built-in 4-channel amplifier, the Sennheiser Surrounder can easily be connected
to different sound sources.
