near a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries generate explosive gases during normal battery operation. PERSONAL
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
- Wear goggles and protective clothing when working with lead-acid batteries.
- Make sure there is a person near you so that they can come to your aid if necessary, while working or near a lead-acid
battery.
- Have plenty of fresh water and soap to use in case battery acid gets in your eyes, on skin, or on clothing. If this happens,
wash immediately with soap and water. Then get medical attention. - Avoid touching your eyes when working with a battery.
Acid particles (corrosion) can enter the eyes. If this occurs, immediately flush eyes with plenty of cool water for at least 10
minutes. Immediately afterwards, seek medical attention.
- Never charge a frozen battery.
- Remove all metallic personal items from your body, such as rings, watches and bracelets while working with a lead-acid
battery. A battery can produce a short circuit current high enough to weld a ring (or the like) to metal, causing severe burns.
- Be careful not to drop any tools or other metal objects on the battery. This can lead to a spark or short circuit in the battery
or other electrical device which can cause an explosion. - Always use the charge controller in an open, well-ventilated area.
- Do not smoke or allow sparks or flames in the vicinity of the battery. Batteries generate explosive gases. - Neutralize the
acid with baking soda before trying to clean the battery.
The Solar Charge Controller is designed to protect your 12 volt GEL or lead acid battery from a solar panel, and also
provides battery connection protection. This regulator will display the current charging voltage or battery voltage on the LCD
display.
LED indicator : Power : If the solar power has enough voltage, the LED power will light up. Charging: Indicates that solar
energy is charging the battery
Floating : After reaching full battery charge. Controller enters float mode
Battery Reverse : LED lights up when the battery is reversed. LED turns on when the temperature of the heat sink reaches
around 60ºC and LED turns off when the temperature drops to around 55ºC.
Protection Switch : GEL / LEAD-switch: Selects gel battery or lead battery.
Voltage switch : Shows the voltage of the charging current or the battery being charged.
Key : The battery is connected if you press this key and then the LCD shows the battery voltage. In this case it is
recommended not to connect the set of solar panels. If the battery is bad, you should not use this option.
