Install a detector as close as possible to the bedroom to ensure minimum safety
or install a detector in every room to provide a higher level of safety.
Before installing a detector, please read the following section on "Places not
suitable for installation".
5.2 Places not suitable for installation (may result in false alarms)
False alarms may occur when smoke detectors are installed in places where they
do not work properly. To avoid false alarms, do not install smoke detectors under
the following circumstances:
Combustion particles are the by-products of something that burns. Therefore
do not install smoke detectors in or near areas where combustion particles are
present so as to avoid false alarms, for example, in kitchens with few windows
or poor ventilation, in garages where vehicle exhaust emissions may be present,
near furnaces, hot water heaters and room heaters.
Install the smoke detector at least 6 meters away from places where combustion
particles are normally present, such as kitchens. If a distance of 6 meters cannot
be maintained, e.g., in a camper, then try to install the detector as far away as
possible from the combustion particles, preferably on the wall. To prevent false
alarms, ensure good ventilation in such places.
Caution!: Never disable smoke detectors to avoid false alarms.
Please remember the following in damp or very humid areas or near
bathrooms with showers: Moisture in humid air can penetrate into the
sensing chamber and then turn into droplets when cooling down, which
can result in false alarms. Install smoke detectors at least 3 meters away
from bathrooms.
