STUD WELDING OPERATING PRINCIPLE WITH TS TIP IGNITION
The TSW1000CAR, TSW1500CAR welding systems run with an extremely quick discharge (2-3 ms) of a battery of
capacitors that weld pins from Ø 2-3 mm to Ø 6-10 mm.
This technology permits to weld threaded studs, plain pins, broaches, bushes, fastons, etc., on clean non-rusted
surfaces built of mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminium or brass.
The rapidity of the process does not alter the surfaces on the side opposite the weld and in many cases may be used
with painted, pre-painted, plasticized and galvanized sheets. Welding is not possible on hardened steel, oxidized or
painted metal. In the last two cases the metal must be perfectly clean.
This process, based on the quick discharge (2-3 ms) of a capacitor, is performed by means of the following technique:
-
by contact
In the contact welding (fig. 3) (gun item 88188):
Fig. 3
Fit the stud into the stud-holding gripper, see phase 1, positioned with its ignition directly on the surface of the sheet
to be welded, see phase 2. The three tips (item 8216) or the cylindrical end fitting (items 88226-88255-88256) must
be pressed to adhere completely so as to weld the pin perpendicularly on the surface. The gun's spring presses the
stud against the metal. The start command triggers the circulation of current that vaporizes the ignition. The electric
arc propagates throughout the whole surface of the stud (phase 4) that is pushed on the metallic surface. The weld
metal solidifies and as such welds the stud (phase 5). Extract the gun to perfectly align it with the pin so as not to
deform the gripper. This will ensure a long lifespan to the gripper (phase 6).
