Now you have familiarised yourself with the basic operation. The search
results can be influenced by various factors such as the condition of the metal
in the ground, depth, size, soil moisture, magnetic and electric fields in the
environment, other metal detectors in the vicinity and other factors. The same
applies to probing under water. Test the appliance in different situations to
become even more familiar with it.
THE UNIT IN OUTDOOR USE
The unit is primarily intended for outdoor use. Indoors, there are too many
metal objects and disturbances, so that metal objects can only be insufficiently
distinguished.
Outdoor use is a little more complicated, as the following factors can have an
impact on the search result: Substrate, metal composition, size and degree of
oxidation. This chapter deals with the basic steps. Try different settings to gain
experience and achieve good results.
1. Switch on the appliance by turning the SENS control to the right. A short
beep sounds and the LED lights up briefly.
2. Users often turn the SENS control to a high sensitivity. However, the
higher the sensitivity, the more susceptible the device is to interference
from underground power lines or cables. Likewise, the unit then reacts
more sensitively to minerals and conductive soils. If the unit gives false
signals, turn the sensitivity down a little.
3. Adjust DISC control Generally, the DISC control is first set to A-M (all
metal types). In this case, the appliance reacts to all types of metal.
When you have found a target, turn the DISC knob clockwise to exclude
the metals in the following order: iron, nickel, can lids, zinc, brass and
aluminium. Please note that silver cannot be excluded as the appliance
reacts similarly to aluminium. The same applies to gold, for which the
appliance reacts in a similar way to can closures.
If you are very experienced and suspect a certain type of metal, turn the
controller to the corresponding position. If you want to exclude metal
waste, turn the DISC control to 12-14 o'clock to exclude scrap metal.
