15. The heating cable shall also not come into contact with itself in the downpipe. Appro-
priate spacers are to be fitted every 15 cm before the heating cable is lowered into
the downpipe.
16. The heating cable in the downpipe must reach at least 1 metre below ground level in
order to ensure that the downpipe remains free of frost past the ground frost line.
17. Check once again that the heating cable lies in the intended position, the heating line
is positioned completely in the gutter/downpipe and that the heating line does not
come into contact with itself, does not cross over itself and does not overlap itself. We
recommend a cable laying kit, e.g. art. no. 80292 for this.
4.2 Installation - pipe trace heating
Preparing the piping and heating cable:
1. Ensure that the area around the pipework is feely accessible and that there are no
sharp edges or easily flammable materials present (in order to reduce the risk of
damaging the cable and adjoining areas as much as possible).
2. Remove sharp edges or fit protection.
3. Earth all metallic parts of the installation.
For safety reasons, earth pipework, metal guttering, metal conduits and sheathing
before laying. Ensure that all metal parts are earthed before starting with the
installation. The conductivity of the complete system must be checked and any
additional earthing connections required must be established.
Allow the heating cable to warm up to room temperature before starting with the
installation.
4. Check the continuity, the resistance and the insulation resistance of the frost protection
heating cable before starting with the installation and also after the installation, and
always before connecting the mains plug. The resistance value must match with the
value on the product label before and after installation. A tolerance of -5% to +10% is
permitted. The insulation resistance must be greater than 10 MOhm. (See: Table 1)
5. Before installation, roll the heating cable out on the floor and arrange it on the floor in
the same way as it is to be subsequently installed against the pipe.
Power supply preparations:
6. Install the mains power outlet in the protected area (indoors).
7. Form a ‚drip loop' with the mains cable after the mains power outlet in order to pre-
vent condensate reaching the socket.
