Uses of the instrument
This is the simplest form of microtome in which the specimen is placed in the central well,
raised by a screw and cut with a hand-held knife. This hand microtome is suitable for
slicing thin sections of paraffin embedded or fresh tissues down to 10 m thin. It is ideal for
introductory biology and for histology work and is also very useful in high school practices
to show for example stem, leaf or root structure.
