In the business world, the fastest growing use of elec-
trical power is caused by computer systems. The
amount of electricity used by computers in businesses
and homes is phenomenal.A large portion of this elec-
tricity is wasted. The Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) has done research showing that most of the time
PCs are powered up, they are not in use. The EPA
promotes the use of energy-efficient equipment be-
cause generating electricity causes emissions that pol-
lute the air.
Gateway 2000 is an official member of the EPA Energy
Star Program. Our agreement with the EPA is a volun-
tary partnership and is a part of our commitment to
environmental responsibility.
The program's requirements include:
Computer systems or monitors that are able to
enter a low-power consumption state when the
unit is inactive
The low-power state is defined as 30 Watts or less
The products have the EPA Energy Star logo.
