CAT I
This device is designed for measurements on electric circuits, which
are not directly connected to the public power grid like measurements
in circuits that are not derived from the power grid and specially
protected circuits that are derived from the power grid.
CAT II
The device is designed for making measurements in circuits that are
directly connected to the low voltage network electrically, for e.g.
measurements on household appliances, mobile tools and similar
devices.
CAT III
The device is designed for making measurements in building
installations. Examples are measurements on junction boards, circuit
breakers, wiring, switches, permanently installed sockets, devices for
industrial use as well as permanently installed motors.
CAT IV
The device is designed for making measurements at sources of low
voltage installations. Examples are meters and measurements on
primary overload protection devices and ripple control devices.
