If the WAIT SIGNAL switch (20) on the back panel is set to PGM then the caller will hear
the signal present at the PGM IN (21) which is the broadcasted signal at the moment and hence
he/she can follow the program without the aid of a receiver.
If the switch is set to AUX then the caller will hear the signal present at the AUX IN (19).
This signal can be of any kind and is provided to complete possible necessities of the show.
Whenever both lines are held, the callers will hear the same signal and conversation
between them is not possible.

4.5. Assignment of a telephone line to a program

A signal is on air when it is present at the OUTPUT (22) socket of the adapter.
To broadcast a signal, the correspondent ON AIR button (11-16) must be pressed and the
ON AIR (12-17) LED will shine. Press again the button when the signal must be removed from the
program. Press the HOLD (10-15) button to hang the call.
Both lines can be on air at the same time and then, the speaker and the two callers can
talk between them.

4.6. Send/Receive level adjustment

The ATA2-1 has two adjust potentiometers, one for the signal level send to the telephone
line SEND (1) and another one for the received signal RCV (2).
The adjust range of 10dB has been choosen because the level of the telephone line
depends on the distance, state of the line and quality of the repeaters, so that any telephone line
input and output levels can be adjusted thus not being necessary to do it through the mixer controls.
The potentiometers are common to both lines because they are part of the hybrid circuit.

4.7. The ATA2-1 built-in compressor

The adapter has a built-in compressor. To activate the compressor, press the ON button
(4) and the ON led (3) will shine.
The compressor improves the rejection of the return of the program signal through the
telephone line. The compressor operates automatically and synchronized with the conversation. The
signal at the OUTPUT (22) is attenuated as a function of the signal at PGM IN (21). The attenuation
is adjusted between 0-30 dB with the ATT(5) control while the THRESHOLD (6) control adjusts the
level needed to trigger the compressor.
In fact, the real attenuation of the adapter is the sum of the dB of compression plus the
rejection of the adapter itself. If the adapter has a rejection of 10dB and the compressor is set to
30dB then the return of the speaker's voice will be attenuated by 40dB.
The attack and release time are fix but fast enough to sychronize the compressor with the
conversation. The compressor acts on all the lines that are ON AIR.
