TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE
• Trailer disconnected from tow vehicle.
• Trailer connection dirty or corroded.
• Trailer or Tow vehicle connector missed wired.
• Open electric brake control wire.
• Loss of ground to brake magnets.
• Power Module detects brake wire short to ground.
• Use of some test lights, or non-Tekonsha testers can cause this.
• Short in 7-Way between Brake Outputs and other terminals.
• Electric Brake wire on tow vehicle or trailer shorted out.
• Power Module loses connection to vehicle battery ground while
trailer is connected.

Defective Brake Magnet.
Intermittent short on electric brake wire or bare wire.
•
Thermal Overload-Reduced Braking Power.
•
Internal Error with Brake Control.
•

Depress brake pedal or manual override.
Verify connection from power module to dash module.
•
•
Verify connection to power module and vehicle.
Verify battery voltage to black wire (12-14 volts).
•
•
Verify ground on white wire.
Use Tekonsha approved test light or tester.
•
Inspect and repair trailer connector, if needed.
•
•
Inspect and repair/replace electric brake wire.
•
Check connection to ground on white wire of power module.
•
Locate and replace defective Brake Magnet.
Locate and repair faulty brake wire.
•
Decrease electrical load.
•

Thermal Overload – Reduced Brake Power.
