COLDWEATHER STARTING(50° F and
below)
8, Whenenginestarts,slowly pushchoke
controlin untilthe enginebeginsto run
smoothly.Continueto pushthe choke
controlin smallstepsallowingthe en-
gine to acceptsmallchangesin speed
andload,untilthe chokecontrolis fully
inotf the enginestartsto run roughly,
pul!the chokecontrolout slightlyfor a
few secondsand then continueto push
the controlin slowly.This may require
an enginewarm-upperiodfrom several
secondsto several minutes,depending
onthe temperature.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WARMUP
Beforedrivingthe unitin coldweather,
the transmissionshouldbe warmedup as
follows:
1. Be surethe tractoris on level ground.
2, Releasethe parkingbrakeand let the
brakeslowlyreturnto operatingposi-
tion.
3. Allow oneminutefor transmissionto
warm up.This can be doneduringthe
enginewarm up period.
• The attachmentscan be usedduring
the enginewarm-upperiodafterthe
transmissionhas beenwarmedup and
may requirethe chokecontrolbe pulled
out slightly.
NOTE: If at a high altitude(above3000
feet)or in coldtemperatures(below32 F)
the carburetor fuel mixturemay needto
be adjustedfor best engineperformance
(see"TOADJUSTCARBURETOR" i n the
ServiceandAdjustmentssectionof this
manual).
RGE TRANSMISSION
CAUTION: Neverengageor dis-
engagefreewheelleverwhilethe engine
is running,
Toensureproperoperationand per-
formance,it is recommended thatthe
transmissionbe purgedbeforeoperating
tractorfor the first time,This procedurewilt
removeanytrappedair insidethe trans-
missionwhichmay havedevelopedduring
shippingof yourtractor.
IMPORTANT:Shouldyour transmission
requireremovalfor serviceor replace-
ment,it shouldbe purgedafterreinstall-
ationbeforeoperatingthe tractor.
1. Placetractorsafelyon a level surface
- that is clearof objectsandopen - with
engineoff and parkingbrakeset.
2. Disengagetransmissionby placing
freewheelcontrolin disengagedposi-
tion (See"TO TRANSPORT" i n this
sectionof manual).
3. Sittingin the tractorseat,start engine.
Afterthe engineis running,move
throttlecontrolto slow position.Disen-
_lbgcage parkingbrake,
AUTION:At anytime, duringstep
4,there may be movementofthe drive
wheels.
4. Depressforwarddrivepedalto full
forwardpositionand holdfor five (5)
secondsand releasepedal.Depress
reversedrive pedalto full reverseposi-
tion and hold for five (5) secondsand
releasepedal. Repeatthis procedure
three (3) times.
5. Shutoff
engine
and set parking
brake°
6.
Engage transmission
by placing free-
wheel control
in engaged
position
(See
"TO TRANSPORT"
in this section
of
manual).
7. Sitting in the tractor
seat, start engine,
After the engine
is running,
move
throttle
control
to half (1/2) speed.
Disengage
parking
brake.
8.
Drive tractor
forward
for approximately
five feet then backwards
for five feet.
Repeat this driving
procedure
three
times.
Your transmission
is now purged and now
ready for normal
operation.
