Select the turntable speed with selector switch 69.
Carefully push up the stylus guard as far as it will go.
Free the pick-up arm by turning lock 6} to the right.
Start the turntable by setting lift lever @ to 'Y'.
Place the pick-up arm over the desired part of the record.
Set lift lever 63 to '¥'; the pick-up arm will now descend onto
the record.
At the end of the record the pick-up arm is automatically raised
from the record and the record player is switched off. Lift lever
@3 springs back to OFF'. Move the pick-up arm back to the arm
rest. When playing is finished, secure the pick-up arm by turn-
ing lock 6) to the left and push down the stylus guard.
Interruption of play
Set lift lever 63 to 'Y'. The pick-up arm is now raised from the
record, while the turntable continues to revolve. Set the lift
lever to '¥
* again when
you want to continue
playing the
record.
Stopping during play
Raise the pick-up arm from the record by setting lift lever @3 to
*Y'; thep switch off the record player by setting the lever to
'OFF'.
Adjustments
Adjusting the lift height
.
If necessary the lift height of the pick-up arm can be raised by
turning adjustment screw (©) anti-clockwise (see fig. 4). Make
sure that there is still some clearance between this screw and
the pick-up arm when the stylus rests on the record - in other
words, don't turn the screw further than you have to.
The lift height can be reduced, if desired, by turning the ad-
justment screw clockwise.
Adjusting the cover hinges
Thanks to the use of friction hinges, the cover can be held
open in practically any position.
If the cover does not remain in the desired position, you can
adjust the hinges by tightening screws @ (see fig. 5).
N.B.: The hinges must not be lubricated.
Pick-up cartridge
The
Super
M
cartridge,
with
which
this
record
player
is
equipped, is mounted on a universal! carrier. In order to check
or replace the stylus unit of the cartridge, the carrier can be
pulled out of the headshell by its raised edge (see fig. 6).
Replacing the stylus unit
Hold the cartridge upside down in one hand, and take hold of
the stylus unit with the thumb and index finger of the other
hand. Slide the stylus unit out of the cartridge, carefully and in
a straight line (see fig. 7).
The new stylus unit can now be slid into the cartridge, carefully
and in a straight line.
Note: To maintain the original performance standards of your
cartridge, be certain that any replacement stylus you buy is of
the original make.
Replacing the cartridge
Remove
the old cartridge from the carrier by first carefully
sliding the coloured
wires from the cartridge's contact pins
and then unscrewing the fixing screws.
The position of Super M cartridges on the carrier is determined
by the notches in the edge of the slots for the nuts.
Use the screws
and nuts with which
the old cartridge was
mounted. Place the nuts in their notches and push the screws
through the slots on both sides of the cartridge (see fig. 8)
Tighten the screws uniformly.
Now connect the coloured wires on the carrier to the pins on
the cartridge as follows: ©

Finally, slide the carrier, with the cartridge,
back
into the
headshell (see fig. 6).
Maintenance
The mechanism
of this record
player does
not require any
special
maintenance,
as
it is fitted
with
self-lubricating
bearings. Although the stylus is only subject to very slight wear,
it is advisable to have it checked at regular intervals by your
dealer, e.g. twice a year. The stylus can be cleaned
with a
soft-haired brush by stroking gently forwards.
Cassette recorder
Compact Cassettes (C60-cassette supplied with the set)
@ With Compact Cassettes you can make
stereo and mono
recordings on the two sides of the cassette, each recording
occupying
half the width of the tape. When
one side of the
cassette is full, you can turn over the cassette and so use the
other side.
e@ Both ends of the tape are attached by a length of non-mag-
netic leader tape to the reel cores. At any time - thatis, not only
at the end of the tape - the cassette can either be turned over
and the other side used, or it can be replaced. N.B. Because of
the length of the leader tape it is necessary when starting at the
very beginning of the tape to allow the cassette to wind on for
about seven seconds before starting to record.
e@ You can prevent the accidental erasure of valuable record-
ings as follows. Having made the recording, take a screwdriv-
er or similar object and break out the little flap at the back of
the cassette near the empty reel (see fig. 9, arrow A). With the
cassette in the recorder at any time thereafter, the record key
cannot be depressed. You can render this safeguard ineffec-
tive by covering the aperture
now
existing with a piece of
adhesive tape.
@ On the inner side of the label in the box you can note the title
of each recording and the counter reading at which it com-
mences.
When
the label is folded the other way round, the
notes you have made can be read through the lid.
e Protect your cassettes against dust by returning each to its
box immediately after use. Store the cassettes at room temper-
ature, away from the sun and out of reach of magnetic fields
generated by the recorder, radios, television sets, loudspeaker
enclosures etc.
@ Ferro cassettes, the tape in which bears a layer of ferric
oxide, provide reproduction which is, of course, not only of low
noise but also of good quality.
@ Chromium
cassettes,
the tape in which
bears a layer of
chromium
dioxide, provide reproduction of HiFi quality when
used in this recorder.
e Musicassettes are Compact Cassettes containing prerecord-
ed music. Musicassettes are safeguarded against accidental
erasure.
Dolby* - NR noise reduction system
The Dolby system operates both during recording and play-
back. In the course of recording with the Dolby system the high;
notes are, during soft passages, recorded with additional am-
plification. If during playback the Dolby system is switched on,
the high notes have their volume reduced again to their normal
level. The advantage
of this is that any tape noise is, also
reduced to a lower level during soft passages (improvement of
'the signal-to-noise ratio).
Cassettes and musicassettes recorded with the Dolby system
must therefore be played back with the Dolby system switched
