Cable length measurement
This function is used to measure the length of a network cable.
Calibration
1.
Plug one end of the testing cable (min. 10m) with a known length into the Length/Flash port (11) on the transmitter and leave the other
cable end disconnected.
2.
Select Setup (Settings) in the main menu, select Unit (Unit of measurement), and then select Calibration (Calibration) and press the
PAIR&L button (4).
Adjust the cable length value, if needed, and press the PAIR&L button (4) to save the data in CAL1. Then, select Load (Save as a
3.
reference value) and press the PAIR&L button (4) again.
!
For more precise results, it is recommended to calibrate the device on a cable with a known length from the same manufacturer.
Using
1.
Plug one end of the testing into the Length/Flash port (11) on the transmitter and leave the other cable end disconnected.
2.
Select Pair/Length (Twisted pair test and Cable length measurement) in the main menu and press the PAIR&L button (4).
Possible outcome is shown below:
Port Flash function
This function is used to locate an exact port on a network switch or on a router to which the tested cable is connected.
1.
Plug the loose end of the network cable to the Length/Flash port (11) of the transmitter; the other cable end is connected to a PoE
source equipment (such as a network switch, router, etc.).
2.
Select Port Flash (Port Flash function) and press the PAIR&L button (4).
The circle on the display will flash with the same frequency as the LED of the target port on the PoE source equipment, and different
from the other LEDs.
Polarity test
This function is used to define the polarity of wires.
1.
Plug the wire with the alligator clips into the RJ11 SCAN port (9) on the transmitter and clamp the alligator clips to the wires of the
telephone cable (+ means anode and – means cathode regardless of the red and black clips clamped on the wires). The other end of the
telephone cable is connected to a telephone.
Select Polar test (Polarity test) and press the PAIR&L button (4).
2.
Possible outcome is shown below:
Cable tracing
This function is used to locate the target cable in a cable bundle.
1.
Shift the two-position switch (2) on the transmitter to the SCAN position to enable the cable tracing mode.
2.
Plug a loose end of the testing cable into the corresponding port on the transmitter: RJ45 SCAN (14) for a network cable, RJ11 SCAN
port (9) for a telephone cable, BNC-connector (10) for a coaxial cable, and USB SCAN port (7) for a USB-cable.
3.
Press the Scan button (20) on the receiver to start a cable search.
4.
Place the receiver near the cable bundle and move the receiver along the cable to trace it. When the sensor is in the close proximity to
the target cable, the receiver will emit a beeping sound. To detect the cable more accurately, lower the sensitivity. The closer the device
is to the object, the louder the signal will be.
!
Never insert a telephone cable into the RJ45 port, as it may cause damage to the cable tester.
!
Cable length measurement and wire mapping is impossible in the cable tracing mode.
