2. OBJECTIVES, SCOPE OF APPLICATION AND CONDITIONS FOR USE
The compressed air filter system is used in a working environment where protection of the respiratory organs, face and head is required
against ricocheting medium, particles, mists, vapours and gases. When the shot blast helmet is connected to the compressed air system,
via the compressed air supply hose and the compressed air filter system, the EN 12021-filtered air flows through the inlet vent at the front
of the air helmet, leaving the helmet via the neck seal. The required airflow can be adjusted on the regulator or on the VORTEX. The
integral airflow indicator displays whether sufficient air is passing into the shot blast helmet. The disposable glass or plastic foil windows
fitted against the helmet window can be removed when dirty or damaged. To remove, open the frame.
The VORTEX regulator (if equipped) is a device that can increase or decrease the temperature of the supplied air by approx. 20°C, so
improving the working conditions of the user. When the VORTEX Air Conditioner is connected to the compressed air system via the high
pressure supply hose and the AFU, the breathing air according to EN 12021 simultaneously passes via the red and blue outlets out of the
device. One outlet can be used to channel the treated breathing air via the supply hose into the shot blast helmet. The required air flow
can be adjusted by the regulator. The air flow indicator, which is integrated in the shot blast helmet, displays whether sufficient air is
passing into the shot blast helmet.
2.1
Limitation of use
The system is not suitable for working in areas with: intense heat radiation, open fires, risk of explosion or if extremely high
concentrations of hazardous matter are present, causing an immediate health risk.
If the ambient temperature is below freezing point, moisture in the compressed air circuit can result in the coupling or regulator
icing-up, blocking the further supply of air. In such a case it is necessary to ensure that the moisture content in the compressed air
(at atmospheric pressure) is less than 50 mg/m³, and is in accordance with EN 12021. Standard compressed air circuits do not
usually comply with this requirement.
Only a medium pressure breathable air source can be used to supply the user.
The use pure oxygen or oxygen enriched air is not allowed.
Using medium pressure breathable gas connectors other than those provided with the equipment is not allowed.
Couplings and hose connections must be kept clean when connecting and disconnecting.
The maximum length of the compressed air supply hose is 60 metres.
The maximum number of compressed air supply hoses that may be joined together to give the maximum length is 3 (3 x 20 m).
The compressed air supply hose can withstand an accidental maximum pressure of 30 bar and a maximum temperature of 130°C.
The working pressure must be at least: 5.5 bar with the regulator or 4.5 bar with the VORTEX.
For the maximum length of the air supply hose and at the minimum working pressure, the minimum flow rate of the apparatus is:
- COMMANDER Series A133X30:
- COMMANDER VORTEX A133X35:
The maximum flow rate of the air supply to the apparatus is 385 L/min for the maximum length of the air supply hose and at the
maximum working pressure of 7.5 bar for COMMANDER Series and 6.5 bar for COMMANDER VORTEX.
During extreme human effort, a temporary negative pressure may occur in the air hood, resulting in a reduced protection factor of
the system.
