4 MAINTENANCE
The ear sensor is molded with a waterproof material that also protects the ear sensor
against barn gases and manure. In case cleaning of the ear sensor is required:
• Always use water without additives, with a maximum temperature of 40°C (104°F), and a
soft brush.
• Do not wash the ear sensor in a washing machine.
• The ear sensor should not be submerged.
• Do not dry the ear sensor in an oven or microwave but always use a cloth.
• Always handle ear sensors with care.

TROUBLESHOOTING
In order to operate correctly, the ear sensor needs to be able to communicate every 15
minutes with a CowManager router or coordinator. Communication can be disturbed
because of the following reasons:
If the distance between the ear sensor and the coordinator/router is too large. The
1
operating distance of the ear sensor is around 100 meters (approximately 330 feet)
in a free line of sight situation. Obstacles such as walls, roofs, metal objects, foliage,
geography, or adverse weather conditions will negatively affect the operating distance.
A strong transmitter that operates in the same frequency band as the ear sensor.
2
For example, Wi-Fi equipment like routers, access points and repeaters, but also P2P
devices. The ear sensor communicates using Zigbee channel 11 in the 2.4GHz frequency
band and this overlaps with channel 1 - 5 of a Wi-Fi network. In case of communication
problems, check the configuration of Wi-Fi and other network equipment to make
sure that this equipment uses Wi-Fi channel 6 or higher, minimizing or eliminating
interference with CowManager devices.
