1. Introduction & Features
Thank you for buying the PI3000B & M! It is a modern technology DC-AC converter that will give you years of dependable
service. Make sure that the device was not damaged in transit. If the device is damaged, you should contact your dealer and
postpone installation of this device. Read the manual thoroughly before bringing this device into service.

Whenever this sign is shown in the manual, a point of attention is mentioned to avoid situations that can be
hazardous to the device or to the user.
The PI3000B & M features modern conversion technology, which makes the device smaller, lighter and easier to use
than older technology inverters. It was designed with a logical and efficient back to front flow in mind: power is
applied to the terminals at the back and flows forward to the AC output junction on the front panel. All controls,
indicators and connectors you will need after installation of the device are conveniently located at the front. Forced
air cooling flows in the same direction, with the fan drawing in air from the rear & blowing it out through the vents on
the front panel.
Leave sufficient space around the device to allow for convection and ventilation cooling.
2. Output Signal: Modified Sine Wave
The AC output waveform of the PI3000B & M is called a
"quasi-sine wave" or a "modified sine wave" (see figure at the
right). It is a stepped waveform that is designed to have
characteristics similar to the sine wave shape of utility power. A waveform of this type is suitable for most AC loads,
including linear and switching power supplies used in electronic equipment, transformers and motors. This waveform
is much superior to the square wave produced by many other DC to AC inverters.
The PI3000B & M modified sine wave is designed to have an RMS (root mean square) voltage of 225V, the same as
standard household power. For accurate measurement of the output voltage, a true RMS reading voltmeter must be
used ; most AC voltmeters are sensitive to the average value rather than the RMS value - they are calibrated for
RMS voltage under the assumption that the waveform measured will be a pure sine wave. These meters will read the
RMS value of a modified sine wave about 2 to 20V low.
BE CAREFUL WITH RECHARGEABLE APPLIANCES
Certain rechargeable battery charging devices can be damaged if connected to the PI3000B & M:
- battery-operated appliances (flashlights, razors, night lights) that can be plugged into an ac outlet to recharge
- chargers for battery packs used in hand power tools. These chargers will have a warning label indicating that
dangerous voltages are present at the battery terminals.
This problem does however not occur with the vast majority of battery-operated equipment, as they use a separate
charger or transformer that produces a low voltage (<30V) AC or DC output.

3. Connections and Controls

1. Overheat indicator: lights up and an alarm sounds
when the device shuts down to go in overheat
protection. The device restarts automatically.
2. on/off switch.
3. Overload indicator: lights up when the device shuts
down because of overload. Set the switch (#2) to off,
remove the overload cause and restart the inverter.
4. Volt/Ampere bar graph meters: operation in the red
zones will result in protective shutdown.
