2.1.2
Choice of cleaning fluid
You must test and ensure that the materials to be placed in the dip tank are resistant to
the cleaning fluids used.
When selecting a cleaning fluid, you must consider that the risks to health, of a fire or
of an explosion must be avoided or reduced as much as possible.
The measures to protect against risks to health, of a fire or of an explosion which are
required in the safety data sheet for the cleaning fluid must be observed and followed.
When using cleaning fluids with a flashpoint < 55 °C you must
have extinguishing equipment to hand, which can be
manually operated from a safe distance
2.1.3
Explosion protection requirements
Directive 1999/92/EC contains minimum regulations for improving work health and
safety for employees, who may be at risk due to explosive atmospheres:
1. Avoidance or limitation of the formation of explosive atmospheres
2. Avoidance of effective sources of ignition
3. Limitation of the effects of a possible explosion to a harmless level
The sequence of the above points in this case is the same as their priority. In addition,
as the operator, you must produce an explosion protection document.
The explosion protection document is the basis for dividing the areas at risk of explosion
into zones.
The explosion protection document produced by the operator specifies the conditions at
the location of use. The operator must test in detail whether the product and its
equipment meet the requirements of the explosion protection document.
