General safety precautions
• Keep these instructions for future reference.
• Installation, electrical connections and adjustments must be per-
formed by qualified personnel in accordance with Good Working Meth-
ods and in compliance with the current standards.
• This product must only be used for the specific purpose for which it
was designed. Any other use is to be considered improper and there-
fore dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any
damage caused by improper, incorrect or unreasonable use.
• Read the instructions carefully before installing the product. Incorrect
installation may cause danger.
• Before installing the product, make sure it is in perfect condition.
• Do not install the product in explosive areas and atmospheres: the pres-
ence of inflammable gas or fumes represents a serious safety hazard.
• Danger of explosion if a battery is replaced with an incorrect type.
The packaging materials (plastic, polystyrene, etc.) should not
be discarded in the environment or left within reach of children,
as they are a potential source of danger.
UE and UK declaration of conformity
ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems AB declares that the LAB9 with the fun-
damental requisites and other relevant requirements laid down by:
EC directives
RED Directive 2014/53/EU
EMC Directive 2014/30/EU

1. LAB9 magnetic loop
The LAB9 magnetic loop operated detector is controlled by a micropro-
cessor, and its task is to detect the passage or the presence of vehicles
in parking lots, factories, etc.

3. Creation and installation of the loop
Create the loop by means of a 1.5 mm²
supplied by us).
Loop [A] should be secured firmly to the ground and can be laid under-
ground at a maximum depth of 50 mm, as indicated in the example of fig. 3.
The dimensions of the loop are indicated in fig. 2 and in tab. 3. The total
length of the loops should be from 15 to 30 m.
The loop have to be designed in such a way that the current always flows
in the same direction (clockwise and counter-clockwise), as show by the
arrows in fig. 4, 5, 6 and 8.
The complete loop must be at least 5 m. If possibel, the single-pole wires
should be transposed with each other.
WARNING: If two LAB9 detectors are to be installed, the loops should be
separated by at least 2 m one from the other to prevent interference,
and DIPs 1 and 2 should be set to different frequencies.
If a grid or metal plate is present under the loop, it might be necessary
to increase the total length of the loop 1 or 2 times.
4. Installation examples
In fig. 2 the magnetic loop is used as an open control (impulse OUT1, or
presence OUT3).
In fig. 7 the magnetic loop is divided into two equal sections so as to obtain
the open control (OUT1 when the vehicle enters the loop) and the close
control (OUT3 when the vehicle exits the loop).
WARNING: the distance [D] between the two loop sections should be
shorter than the length of the vehicles that are transiting.
5. Wiring
- Insert the LAB9 detector card into the appropriate seat AUX inside the
control panel, or use the CONT1 card-holding base.
- Connect the loop to the terminals of the LAB9 detector card.
- If LAB9 detector is inserted inside a controls/radio card seat, the OUT1
impulse output (N.O.) is connected to the open control (1-3). To disable

PRESENCE DETECTION DURATION
Unlimited
Limited to 4.5 mins. Detection is followed by an automatic RESET.
From this moment, the object occupying the loop is no longer de-
tected. The presence detection function is reactivated when the
loop is disengaged.
7. Starting
- Set the operating frequency by means of DIP1 and DIP2, as indicated in ch.6.
- It is advisable to set DIP5=ON to automatically increase the sensitivity
of the magnetic loop once it has detected a vehicle.
WARNING: if the vehicles occupy the magnetic loop for a long time, set
DIP5=OFF.
- Set a low initial sensitivity value (DIP3=ON and DIP4=ON).
- Power the LAB9 card and press the RESET button to calibrate the ma-
gnetic card (the LED flashes and then turns off after the calibration
has terminated).
WARNING: during calibration, make sure there is no metal mass above
the loop.
If the DIPs are changed, the RESET button must be pressed again.
- Carry out some tests with transiting vehicles and check for the correct
activation of the outputs (with the lighting up of the LED). If necessary,
increase the sensitivity of the magnetic loop by means of DIP3 and DIP4.
WARNING: You are advised to set low sensitivity values.
- Select the working mode of output OUT3 by means of DIP6.
- Select the impulsed operation of output OUT3 by means of DIP7.
- Activate or deactivate output OUT1 by means of DIP8.
- Set the presence detection duration by means of DIP10.
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol indicates that the product should be
disposed of separately from household waste. The product should be han-
ded in for recycling in accordance with local environmental regulations for
waste disposal. By separating a marked item from household waste, you will
help reduce the volume of waste sent to incinerators or landfill and minimize any
potential negative impact on human health and the environment.
