The B A C K S PA C E key is labelled with an arrow pointing to the left. Pressing it will
delete the character to the left of the cursor. If there are characters to the right of the
cursor, they will be moved with the cursor one position to the left. The S PA C E B A R
is the wide key with no label, located in the bottom row of the keyboard. A space ap-
pears when you press it. The TA B U L AT O R key is labelled with two arrows one
above the other, pointing in opposite directions. In word processing applications, it
usually moves the cursor a particular distance to the right (or to the left, when used to-
gether with the S H I F T key). Its function can, however, vary depending on the indi-
vidual program.

The A LT key is used in combination with other keys to perform particular functions.
These functions are determined by the program being used. To enter a keyboard short-
cut with the A LT key, you press and hold down the A LT key as you press the oth-
er key. The A LT G R key works in a similar way to the A LT key, but is used to obtain
special characters. The C O N T R O L key ( C R T L ) performs program functions, like
the A LT key.
