5. Close cover and open the sight
cover to 45°.
6. Position compass at eye-level with
mirror extending outward to the

7. Above the horizon (level, 0°), sight
object through sight hole (figure 39).

8. Rotate azimuth ring until the reflection
of the arrow, on the

orienting circle, is aligned with the

clinometer arrow (figure 39).
9. Position compass close enough to read inclination in the
magnified index lens.
· Read angle from the black scale – 30° (figure 40).

1. Remove rubber shoe to expose back side of compass.
2. Locate the clinometer index mark on the back side of the azimuth ring.
3. Holding azimuth ring stationary, rotate vial until the arrow on the
points to the clinometer index mark (figure 38).
4. Place rubber shoe back on the compass.
