5.7. Continuous Pipetting Mode (C)
The aspiration and dispensing are controlled manually. The aspiration/
dispensing continues as long as the corresponding button is held down
(within the operating volume range). The C-mode is also provided with
the blow-out function.
1. Press
2. Press
3. The home position, i.e. 0.00 ml, will be shown on the display.
4. Press the upper START button to begin aspiration. Keeping the button
down sustains the function until the maximum volume of the chosen
range has been reached. The function can be paused or restarted at
any moment by manipulating the START button.
5. Press the lower START button to begin dispensing. Keeping the button
down sustains the function until the home position has been reached.
6. If the blow-out function is needed to empty the pipette/tip completely,
a double click of the START button will initiate the blow-out function
and the piston is returned back to the home position.
The harder the buttons are pressed the faster the aspiration/dispensing.
While the piston is moving, a C and a dashed line (C - - - - ) appears on
the display.
If the maximum volume is aspirated, the XL will automatically stop and
the aspirated volume will appear on the display.
6. PIPETTING RECOMMENDATIONS
Several different liquid handling procedures are available when the
different operating modes and various special functions are utilised. Two
of the modes (P and C) feature an automatic blow-out and others (d and
Sd) leave the excess liquid in the tip. The recommendations below should
be followed to ensure optimal performance.
6.1. Dispensing with Blow-out
The pipetting mode (P), has an automatic blow-out function, and the
continuous mode (C), a manual blow-out. In both modes the blow-out function
is followed by an automatic return of the piston to the "home" position. To
avoid accidental aspiration of the liquid back into the tip, it is recommended
that dispensing is always conducted above the liquid surface.
