Before the item is put into operation, the instruction manual must be read and
understood in its entirety
2. Safety instructions
1.
The IKAR BK rescue clamp for IKAR webbings with widths ranging from 19-25 mm is used to
rescue a single person suspended in a personal fall protection system after a fall and where
the fastener of the rescue device cannot be attached directly to the injured person by the
rescuer. The rescue clamp is approved for the rescue of a maximum of one person.
2.
The rescue clamp may not be attached to webbing or wire-rope fasteners made by other
manufacturers, as the fault-free, safe functioning of the rescue clamp cannot be guaranteed
in such a case (e.g. damage to the fastener causing the connection to tear and resulting in
a fall with fatal injuries; if the rescue clamp slides out of the fastener, the person cannot be
lifted and rescued).
3.
Caution: The IKAR BK rescue clamp may only be used for rescue purposes in accordance
with its intended purpose. It must be possible for the person being rescued to be lifted or
lowered/rappelled without impediment. The entire rescue route must be free from obstacles.
This rescue clamp must not be used to lift or lower loads.
4.
Before using the IKAR BK rescue clamp for the first time, the user must familiarise himself
with the its operation and function. Before use, the user must consider how the rescue plan
can be executed safely, quickly and effectively. A rescue plan that takes into account all
potential emergencies in work-related scenarios must be in place.
5.
All persons involved in the rescue plan must themselves be protected from falling.
6.
The rescue clamp may only be operated by persons who are trained accordingly and who
can safely handle the rescue clamp and the rescue equipment in use. Any factors that could
impair an individual's physical health must be eliminated (e.g. alcohol, drugs, medications or
circulatory problems)
7.
The IKAR BK rescue clamp may only be used in conjunction with fall arresting equipment
that complies with EN 1496:2007 (B) and higher and with rappelling rescue equipment that
complies with EN 341:2011/1496:2006 B or EN 341:2004/1496:2006 and higher. The user
must also follow the instructions for use provided in the instruction manuals for all devices
used.
8.
Prior to each use, the BK rescue clamp must be inspected by the user to ensure that it is free
from any defects and that it functions safely and correctly (identification plate legible; check
for tears and damage; safety bolt with pin is functional; clamping lever can be moved freely).
This does not apply to rescue clamps which are shrink-wrapped and sealed by the manufac-
turer, or those that have been sealed by an expert in personal fall protection systems.
9.
If a rescue clamp is damaged or strained by a fall, or there are any doubts as to whether the
rescue clamp is in a safe condition, it must be withdrawn from use immediately! The may
only be used again after an expert in personal fall protection systems has inspected it and
written approval for its further use has been obtained.
10. Repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer.
11. As required, and every twelve months as a minimum, the IKAR BK rescue clamp must be
inspected by the manufacturer or by an expert in personal fall protection systems. This
inspection must be documented in the enclosed test book. The effectiveness and durability of
the IKAR BK rescue clamp depend on regular inspections. Rescue clamps which are shrink-
wrapped by the manufacturer in a packing bag are excluded from the above requirement.
In such a case, the packing bag must be inspected by an expert in personal fall protection
systems to ensure that it is defect-free.
12. The actual service life of the rescue clamp is determined by the expert during the annual
inspection. The service life may be up to ten years, depending on use.
13. Compliance with DGUV-R 112-199 . is mandatory.
14. The IKAR BK rescue clamp must be protected from any effects of welding flames and
sparks, fire, acids, lyes and from extreme temperatures and corrosive environmental influ-
ences.
15. The permissible operating temperature range is between -40° and +50° Celsius.
16. Modifications or enhancements to the IKAR BK rescue clamp are not permitted – otherwise
danger to life may result.
