WARNING: Some of the maintenance procedures described in this manual require some
general technical skills and expertise. This generator MUST ONLY be serviced by people
with the necessary skill level. If in doubt, have the machine serviced by an authorised GMC
service centre.
Cleaning
Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly,
and shorten the machine's service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush,
or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation
holes
Use a mild detergent and a damp cloth to clean parts contaminated with oil or fuel. Rinse
with fresh water and dry thoroughly

Maintaining the air filter

WARNING: Never run this generator without the air filter element fitted, as this would lead
to rapid wear of internal components, causing permanent engine damage and shorten the
service life of this generator.
1. Release the two Air Filter Housing Clips (14) and remove the Air Filter Housing Cover (15)
2. Remove the air filter element from its frame
3. Wash the filter element thoroughly in a solution of warm water with non-foamy household
detergent, or clean with a specialised non-flammable solvent
WARNING: DO NOT use petrol or other flammable solvents to clean the filter element, as this
could lead to fire or explosion.
4. Dry the filter element thoroughly
WARNING: DO NOT wring out the element, as this would damage the sponge material.
WARNING: NEVER install a wet filter element, as water in the air intake will lead to
permanent engine damage.
5. Immerse the dried filter element in clean engine oil, or alternatively, apply specialised air
filter oil to the filter element. Gently squeeze (but DO NOT wring out) to remove excess
oil.
Note: If the filter element is installed soaked in excessive amounts of oil, the engine will
produce large amounts of smoke after being started.
6. Reinstall the filter element in its frame inside the air filter housing, reinstall the Air Filter
Housing Cover and fasten both Air Filter Housing Clips

Maintaining the spark plug

Note: To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must
be kept free of deposits, with the electrode properly gapped.
WARNING: Switch off the Engine Switch (1) and wait until the
engine has cooled completely, before attempting to remove
the spark plug.
1. Pull the Spark Plug Cap (10) off the top of the spark plug
2. Clean any dirt from the Spark Plug Cap or the top of the
spark plug
3. Use the included spark plug wrench to loosen the Spark plug,
by turning it anticlockwise. Once loosened, remove the spark
plug by hand
4. Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard if the ceramic
insulation is cracked, or if you detect any other damage
5. If any deposits are visible around the electrode area, brush off
with a brass wire spark plug brush (not included)
WARNING: Never clean spark plugs by sand blasting.
Note: If damage to the electrodes becomes visible during or after
cleaning, the spark plug needs to be replaced (see 'Specification'
for compatible types).
6. Check electrode gap with a feeler gauge or specialised spark
plug gap tool (both not included), and adjust if necessary
7. Reinstall the spark plug by screwing it into the engine by hand,
and tightening it with the spark plug wrench
Note: When fitting a new, previously unused spark plug, it should
be seated by hand and then tightened about 1/2 turn with a
wrench, to compress its washer. A previously fitted spark plug
only requires 1/8 to 1/4 turn, after being seated by hand. The use of a torque wrench to set
spark plugs is recommended. The correct torque for this device is 20Nm.
WARNING: The spark plug must be securely tightened. An improperly tightened spark plug
can become very hot and damage the generator.
WARNING: Never fit a spark plug with an improper heat range (see 'Specification' for
compatible types).
8. Push fit the Spark Plug Cap
Cleaning the Fuel Mesh Filter
1. Open the Fuel Cap (21) and remove the Fuel Mesh Filter (23) by pulling it out of the Fuel
Tank Opening (22)
2. Wash the filter with clean petrol or a compatible washing solution
3. Dry thoroughly and insert the Fuel Mesh Filter back into
the Fuel Tank Opening
Cleaning the sediment cup / draining
the fuel system
Note: The sediment cup and mesh filter prevent dirt and water
from entering the carburettor. They should always be cleaned
if the engine has not been run for some time.
1. Switch off the Fuel Shut-Off Valve (17)
2. Use a suitable spanner (not included) to remove the sediment cup, by turning it in a
clockwise direction
