Hydrastep 2468 Steam/Water Level Detection System
GB
(Supercritical Applications, 300 Bar Water Columns)
1.
General information applicable to the complete system.
1.1
Under the Pressure Equipment Directive these products can be defined as safety accessories if used
for that purpose and not only as level indication. If used for safety purposes, it is the responsibility of
the user / installer to assess the suitability of the product in the pressure equipment or system in
which it is used.
1.2
These safety instructions are to be used in conjunction with the Hydrastep Operating Manual.
Suitably trained personnel shall carry out the installation, both mechanical and electrical, in
accordance with the applicable local and national regulations and codes of practice for each
discipline.
1.3
Safe working practices for the media and process concerned are followed during the installation and
maintenance of the equipment.
1.4
If the equipment is likely to come into contact with aggressive substances, it is the responsibility of
the user to take suitable precautions that prevent it from being adversely affected, thus ensuring that
the type of protection, both mechanical and electrical, are not compromised.
1.5
The equipment, both mechanical and electrical, must not be used as a support for other equipment or
personnel.
1.6
Both the mechanical and electrical content of the system must be protected from impact.
2.
Pressure bearing fabrications and parts.
2.1
All piping connections must conform to the local and national regulations and codes of practice.
2.2
The materials of construction must be suitable for the application. See Hydrastep Operating Manual.
2.3
The pressure and temperature limits for this equipment are not exceeded, if necessary by the use of
suitable safety accessories. See Hydrastep Operating Manual.
2.4
Regular inspection for corrosion and wear are carried out, both internal and external.
2.5
The installed water column is correctly mounted with hangars, etc. to ensure the mounting pipework
is not bearing support loads applied by the water column weight. See Hydrastep Operating Manual.
2.6
All sizes of this product are designed and manufactured to comply with modules B+D of the Pressure
Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU. They carry a CE mark and have a Declaration of Conformance to
show compliance with the directive.
2.7
This product is designed for use with liquids within Group 2.
2.8
Personnel are protected from burns by guards fitted to the equipment and limited access. Where
practicable the equipment may be thermally lagged to increase efficiency. Allow time to cool prior to
carrying out maintenance operations. This hazard is extremely important where supercritical
installations are operating at the maximum temperature of 560C. It is recommended that HOT
notices are fitted in the vicinity of the water column installation.
2.9
Sensing electrodes must not be fitted until all installation work and final pre commissioning checks
are carried out. Do not remove blanking plugs until electrodes are fitted.
2.10
The user should not repair this equipment but general maintenance can be applied as described
within the Hydrastep Operating Manual.
2.11
The electronic level gauge is only to be used with equipment that operates on water / steam that has
a suitable water purity control. See Hydrastep Operating Manual for water chemistry thresholds.
3.
Electronic equipment.
3.1
Wiring diagrams as shown within the instrument manual detail the wiring connections. Note that all
wiring must conform to the local and national regulations and codes of practice.
