REMOTE DETECTORS
Detectors are available for different gases, with different
measuring ranges and in different housings to suit the actual
application and environmental requirements. Examples of
gases that are possible to detect are:
- Ammonia (NH
)
3
- HFC, HCFC and mixtures
- Flammable gas, Hydrocarbon (HC), Propane, Methane etc
- Hydrogen (H
)
2
- Exhaust gases (CO)
- Diesel exhaust, Nitrogen dioxide (NO
- Carbon dioxide (CO
)

The "MP-series" is a range of detectors special designed for
use with the MPU units.
The standard room mounting and splash proof models typically
used in plant room and warehouse applications are MP-D and
MP-DS.
- MP-D, Room mounting (IP21)
- MP-DS, Splash proof enclosure (IP54)
For the monitoring of pressure relief vent lines on refrigeration
systems a compression fitting assembly is available to house
the sensing element.
- MP-DR, For vent lines from safety valves (IP-54)
Detector for duct mounting in ventilation systems.
- MP-DK, duct mounting (IP54)
For detailed information or model choice and gas/range, please
see respective detectors product sheet.
Other detectors that can be connected to the MPU include:
- GJ-EX, (ATEX approved detector)
GJ-EX have not a built-in offset potentiometer, it needs
therefore to be calibrated individually on each channel.
Use potentiometer (9) for calibration and note that jumper (8)
must be mounted.
- Other detectors/transmitters:
Any detector with 0 to10VDC or 4 to 20mA output signal can be
used in conjunction with the MPU. Contact us for further details.
Please Note!
The sensors used in the MP-series have limited selectivity and
are therefore not gas specific. Care should be taken when
installing the equipment to minimize any cross contamination
from other gases or vapours.

LOCATION
Correct location of the detector is essential to ensure optimum
operation of the system. Special consideration must be given to
air movement and whether the gas to be detected is heavier or
lighter than air. For gases heavier than air (e.g. Refrigerants
(HFC, HCFC) or propane LPG) the sensor should ideally be
located approximately 20cm above floor level and for gases
lighter than air (e.g. Ammonia, methane) the sensor should be
located close to ceiling level or the highest point within the room.
INSTALLATION
Connect the detector according to the wiring diagram.
NOTE! For unused channels a jumper (8) must be mounted and a
>100 kohms resistor (attached) must be installed between (+) and
(S) to prevent open sensor alarms.
Otherwise will the channel indicate a fault alarm.
When changing or replacing a detector a new calibration must be
performed.
ALARM LEVELS / CHANGING ALARM LEVELS
The unit is normally supplied with default set alarm thresholds.
These must be verified or reset during commissioning.
To set or change the Alarm thresholds you need a service tool
(SA200), a voltage meter and a small screw driver.
Full details regarding custom alarm set-points for a range of
gases together with a detailed procedure are outlined in specific
data sheets. Multiple gases and alarm set-points can be
accommodated on a single MPU as each channel is totally
independent.
OPTION - FACTORY PRE-CALIBRATION (6)
The equipment can be supplied factory calibrated to suit specific
applications. Details of the calibrated gas type(s) and channel
references are detailed on the equipment supplied.
Standard alarm settings are based on Health and Safety
guidelines for toxic gases and at concentrations no greater than
20% of the lower explosive level (LEL) for potentially explosive
gases. For refrigerants alarm settings is set according to branch
standards. See table (6) in page 4 for standard pre-set factory
settings. Other custom calibrations are available upon request.
MAINTENANCE
Testing the system is recommended to be done at least twice a
year. A basic function test can be made using a service tool
(SA200) and a voltage meter.
Extended control and calibration requires also test gas with a
specific concentration.
