NOTE
Standard input rotation is for engines which rotate in
an anticlockwise direction when looking on the flywheel
end. A special pump is required for clockwise rotating
engines.
III OPERATION
When installing the gearbox take care there is enough space
to replace the heat exchanger, oil filter, pump and to ac-
cede to the oil dipstick.
The oil plug must be easily accessible.
STANDARD GEARBOX INSTALLATION (Fig. 5)
PERMISSIBLE INSTALLATION
°
ANGLES DURING OPERATIONS (
)
With reference to the orthogonal
and longitudinal input shaft axes
as to the horizontal plane
CAUTION
Normally the gearbox is flange mounted to the engine.
In this instance, the two units are correctly centered
by the flange register. If the gearbox is installed sepa-
rately, with a drive shaft, the foundation mounting can
be either rigid or elastic.
Normally the engine is mounted elastically. The torsion
coupling fitted to the input must also be capable of
absorbing misalignements of the engine movement.
It may component to install, in addition to the normal
torsional coupling, a further flexible component to ab-
sorb any misalignment.
V-DRIVE INSTALLATIONS (Fig. 6-7)
Installations that have remote free standing gearboxes, a
telescopic drive shaft can be used as shown in the follow-
ing sketches. It is important that in addition to the previous
technical data the drive shaft is set up as shown below.
Installation with V-drive gearbox (Fig. 6)
(Parallel flange-face alignment method)
CAUTION
Engine and gearbox must be installed as
shown to ensure flanges A and B are parallel.
1) Power unit.
2) Torsional coupling.
3) Variable-lenght (telescopic) cardan shaft. - Selected in
accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
Comply with installation instructions.
4) Propeller shaft.
5) V-drive gearbox with input and output on same side.

NOTE
BOTH ALIGNMENT METHODS DESCRIBED ARE APPLI-
CABLE TO EITHER INSTALLATION ARRANGEMENT.
CONNECTION TO PROPELLER SHAFT
Propeller shafts with or without axial mounting can be in-
stalled. The axial mounting can be useful to relieve the axial
forces acting on the gearbox. The exact axial load the gear-
box can stand depends from many conditions. We recom-
mended you to contact. Your nearest ZF Hurth Marine S.p.A.

shaft mounting depends on the operating loads and must
be specified by the shipyard (see Fig. 8).

Alignment must be checked before the delivery of the ves-
sel to the customer considering that
1) The hull and the propeller shaft alignment must be com-
pleted with the vessel in the water, because hull defor-
mations can change previous alignment.
