For aquariums
Suction holders
Primary voltage (V / Hz)
Secondary voltage (V)
Output (W)
Length of power cord (m)
Installation:
PLEASE NOTE: Prior to doing any work on the connecting terminals of the transformer,
make sure to disconnect the power plug.
1.
Clean the bottom panel of the aquarium from the inside (dust-free).
2.
Lay the heating cable (5) in loops at an equal distance of approx. 8 – 10 cm on the bot-
tom panel by using the enclosed mounting suction cups (Fig. 3). Make sure the cables
do not crisscross or kink. Moisten the suction cups slightly beforehand for better adhe-
sion. Caution: The heating cables have a certain length of a cold, non-heating lead (3,
Cold cable, see Table) on both sides. The transition from the cold lead to the heating
part is identified by a marking (4) on the cable.
3.
Bring the two cold leads (3) out of the aquarium.
4.
Unscrew the cover (10) on the transformer, remove the cover and pull off the strain relief
(9).
5.
Secure the two cold leads in the connecting terminals for the cold cable (8) of the trans-
former (2). Polarity as desired.
6.
Replace the strain relief and screw the cover back on.
7.
Mount the transformer (2) in a well-ventilated place that is safe from splashing water.
8.
Pour the substrate into the aquarium (Fig. 4). The following set-up on the bottom of the
tank has proven successful: 1.5 – 4 cm of JBL AquaBasis plus, the substrate developed
specially for aquarium plants, as the bottom layer, directly on the heating cable. This
should then be covered with a 4 – 8 cm thick layer of JBL Manado.
9.
After the plants have been planted and the tank filled with water, the transformer can
be connected to the mains.
Operational duration and total heating of the aquarium:
The JBL ProTemp b substrate heater should heat the substrate so it is slightly warmer than
the tank water and should operate non-stop. In no case, though, can it heat all of the water
in the tank. That is why a standard aquarium heater (e.g. JBL ProTemp s) is required addi-
tionally to heat the tank.
Tip:
When the weather is hot in the summer, interval operation of the substrate heater is advis-
able in order to prevent the aquarium from becoming too hot. A common automatic timer
can be used to only operate the substrate heater for a short duration at regular intervals
(e.g. 15 min every hour). If water temperatures exceed 30 °C, the substrate heater should be
turned off altogether.
A dual-circuit thermostat from a specialist shop that is specially designed for combined con-
trol of a water heater and a substrate heater in an aquarium can be used as an alternative.
