C A U T I O N S
• Do not attempt to open the decibelimeter, it may cause a malfunction and void the
warranty.
• Do not expose the HER-402 to extreme temperatures.
• Avoid HER-402 to fall, it could be damaged.
• Do not place heavy objects on the decibelimeter.
• Do not expose the HER-402 or its accessories to dust, smoke or steam.
• Always use a soft, dry cloth to clean the decibelimeter.
• When you use the decibelimeter in the presence of wind, place the fi lter in the sensor
tip to prevent unwanted signals.
H I G H L I G H T S
This digital sound meter can measure sound pressure level, commonly used in noise
pollution studies for the quantifi cation of different kinds of noise.
It features dB sone reading, hold data function and minimum, maximum and
average level registry. It has 4-digit and luminous display. Manufactured in high
resistant plastic.
C O N T R O L S

Filter: If you use the device in
environments with a wind speed above
10 m/sec (22 mph), use protection fi lter
to prevent non-measurement noise.

H (Hold): retains the value read.

MAX: continuous measurements are
performed in this mode and reading is
only updated when detects the highest
level.

Time of measurement: for real-time
measurement select FAST; for General
measurements select SLOW.

Lighting: press once to illuminate the
bottom of the screen.

A/C: use compensation to allow the
meter to respond as the human ear to
sounds.

unit dB (decibels) or SONE (to evaluate
the level of loudness).

measuring ranges. You can select
between 30-80, 40-90, 50-100, 60-110,
70-120, 80-130 and 30-130.

10 OVER/UNDER: they warn about
the sound level.
H O W T O U S E
1. Press the power button. The display will show the default range (40-90dB) and
registered sound level.
2. Aim the microphone toward the sound source to be measured.
3. If the display shows UNDER or OVER, means that the sound level is less than or
greater than the range of 40 - 90 dB, respectively, so the measurement is invalid. Set
the measurement range in a correct position.

Press ▼ or ▲ to adjust the desired range. When UNDER

shows on screen, the range will be high, so you will need

you must press ▲ until the message OVER disappears.
5. If you want a general noise measurement, select the option using the A/C button.
If you want to measure levels of sound with acoustic material, select C. Your choice
is displayed on the screen.
6. When you want to obtain a real time sound measurement select FAST, pressing
the FAST/SLOW button. To obtain average sound measurements , select SLOW.
7. When you need to obtain the maximum value of a sound, press MAX. The word
MAX will be displayed on the screen.
8. If you need measurements in low light conditions, press

When the low battery icon appears, replace the batteries. Remove the screw that
secures the lid of the battery compartment and insert 4 AAA batteries.

This Steren product is warranted under normal usage against defects in workmanship and materials to the original purchaser for one year from
the date of purchase.

2. If the product is in the warranty time, the company will repair it free of charge.
3. The repairing time will not exceed 30 natural days, from the day the claim was received.
4. Steren sell parts, components, consumables and accessories to customer, as well as warranty service, at any of the addresses mentioned later.
THIS WARRANTY IS VOID IN THE NEXT CASES:
If the product has been damaged by an accident, acts of God, mishandling, leaky batteries, failure to follow enclosed instructions, improper repair by
unauthorized personnel, improper safe keeping, among others.
a) The consumer can also claim the warranty service in the purchase establishment.
b) If you lose the warranty card, we can reissue it, if you show the invoice or purchase ticket.
