The CONTAX D-10093-BUS is a static, three-phase modular direct-connection
digital recording meter, with network analysis functions, with pass-through
connection for measuring active and reactive energies, which is used to measure
electrical power in three-phase ac systems at 3 x 230 (400) Vac at a maximum
current of 100 A by phase.
El CONTAX D-10093-BUS is FIXED equipment that is designed for permanent
operation

environments
MEASUREMENT CATEGORY III.
For example, measurements on distribution boards, junction boxed, fixed installation
mains sockets and industrial equipment that is permanently connected to the fixed
station.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: Electrical apparatus assembly and installation shall be carried out by a
fully-authorised installer.
The apparatus shall be installed on a board or in a cabinet that guarantees that the
terminals connected to the mains supply are NOT ACCESSIBLE after the
installation.
WARNING: THE INSTALLATION SHALL INCLUDE an automatic circuit breaker or
other over-current protection device, with a suitable over-current value located before
the meter.
IT IS RECOMMENDED that the automatic protective circuit breaker be located close
to the equipment and easily accessible by the operator.
The equipment is internally protected against interference by a safety circuit.
However, certain especially strong magnetic fields could alter its operation.
Interference can be avoided if the following installation rules are taken into account:
- The equipment must not be installed near inductive loads (motors, transformers,
contactors etc)
- A separate line is recommended for the power supply and fitted with a mains filter
if necessary
- Inductive loads must be fitted with interference suppressors (MOV, RC filter)
When the equipment is installed under normal usage conditions, the measurement
terminals remain permanently connected and are NOT ACCESSIBLE. Additional
ventilation is not required.
Under such conditions, the equipment is protected against exposure to sunlight, rain
and wind, but neither the temperature nor humidity are monitored.
CONNECTION
BEFORE
CARRYING
OUT
THE
CONDUCTORS ARE NOT CARRYING ELECTRICAL POWER
Connections shall be made according to the wiring diagram.
When the device is fully installed, the power can be re-established by resetting the
automatic circuit breaker.
Class II equipment under correct installation conditions. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE
provisions for protective earthing.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
When the equipment is correctly installed as specified, the meter will commence
recording active and reactive energies in the associated three-phase system.
If it is incorrectly installed, LED 2 (PHASE SEQUENCE ERROR) will come on.
If there is insufficient voltage in any of the phases Alarm LED E3 will come on.
The optical control outputs (red LED) and the electrical control output S0 (terminals
20 and 21 for active, 22 and 23 for reactive) will flash in proportion to the recorded
energy according to the meter constant.
The meter constant is the value that expresses the relationship between the energy
recorded by the meter and the corresponding value at the control output. The meter
constant for control, optical (LED) and electrical (S0) outputs is 800 pulses
/kWh/kvarh.
Measurement errors
In order for the error to remain within the equipment class limits (Class 1 Active,
Class 2 Reactive), the current provided by the load has to be within the interval
specified by EN 62053-21 and EN 62053-23, as shown in the following diagram:

and
When the current is at its rated value of Ib = 10 A, the active energy measurement
error shall be less than ± 1% and the reactive energy shall be less than ± 2%.
For current values lower than the limits for the zone (1), the percentage error is not
determined.
Display
The equipment is fitted with a six-digit digital display (kWh/kvarh).
Approximately two seconds after switching the equipment on, the corresponding
firmware version is shown with the display fully on.
After the version, the meter slave address is displayed (final part of the serial
number, see the barcode on the front panel) and then the various measurements are
shown successively every five seconds approximately.
In order to indicate the current tariff period for the meter, 'Tn' is displayed for summer
and 'n' for winter; 'n' indicates the period number (1, 2, 3 or 4) in this time frame.
When the equipment is receiving or transmitting data via the Modbus, the
symbol flashes.
NOTE: the Sel button can be used to advance and display other screens.
NOTE: the displayed screens can be configured via the Modbus.
Electric pulse outputs (only two-wire)
According to EN 62053-31 (type S0):
 Output circuit power supply:
 Pulse width:
 Limit values:
Modbus communications (RTU)
The meter includes a RS-485 serial output.
The data communications system is based on the MODBUS protocol and enables a
Master device (PC/PLC...) to be connected to a common RS-485 line:
 Up to 32 slaves without using signal amplifiers over a maximum distance of 1,000
metres;
 Up to 247 slaves in groups of 32, separated by specific signal amplifiers.
Communications
THAT
THE
question/response communications with the slaves (only one slave is addressed).
The characteristics of the implemented MODBUS protocol are as follows:
 Coding type: RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)
 Transmission speed (Baud Rate): 9600, 4800, 2400, 1200 bps (user selectable)
 Transmitted byte format: 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 1 parity bit (selectable: none, odd
or even), 1 stop bit
 Error correction mode: CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) type
The meter is factory-configured with: 9600, 8 N 1 (shown on the display).
IF THE EQUIPMENT IS USED IN A NON-SPECIFIED MANNER, THE CORRESPONDING
GUARANTEED PROTECTION MAY BE COMPROMISED. SEALED CASING, DO NOT
OPEN THE METER.
