Application
The Electronic-Key reading module
ELM 611-... in the Vario design is
a no-contact access control system
which can be optionally used as a
stand-alone unit or in conjunction
with the entryway controller
EC 602-... at the Siedle Vario bus
Used in stand-alone operation, the
ELM 611-... manages a maximum
of 9 users (Electronic-Key EK 601-0
and/ or Electronic-Key Card
EKC 601-0) plus a master card.
It is possible to read in one or more
user keys/cards at one or more
ELM 611-... units.
The scope of delivery of the
ELM 611-... does not include an
EKC 601-...
For commissioning and operation,
EK/EKC 601-... units have to be
ordered. These are available in packs
of three or ten.
In stand-alone operation, a floating
contact is available directly at the
ELM 611-..., for example for trig-
gering a door release.
(Closing time 3 sec.)
In bus operation, the ELM 611-... is
used as a reading unit. For manage-
ment of the various user keys/cards
and to trigger the outputs, an input
controller EC 602-... is required
at the Vario bus. In this operating
mode, it is possible to manage up
to 999 user keys/cards. Using input
controller extension ECE 602-..., a
total of 8 control outputs are avail-
able.
As up to 8 ELM 611-... units can be
connected to one EC 602-... in bus
operation, each ELM 611-... must
receive its own address. Underneath
the lid on the back next to the
ribbon cable outlet is a BCD rotary
switch for setting addresses from
1 to 8. The settings 0 and 9 and
double allocation of numbers result
in failure of the ELM 611-...
If several ELM 611-... units are used,
a distance of at least 1 m is neces-
sary between the modules.

Electrical voltage
Mounting, installation and servicing
work on electrical devices may only
be performed by a suitably qualified
electrician.
• In order to comply with the gen-
eral safety regulations for telecom-
munication systems in accordance
with VDE 0100 and VDE 0800, and
to prevent electrical interference,
ensure separate routing of heavy
and light current conductors. A dis-
tance of 10 cm must be adhered to.
• If the Electronic key EK 601-... is
attached to a set of car keys, this
can interfere with your car immo-
bilizer, as some immobilizers work at
the same frequency.
For this reason, we advise not
attaching your Electronic Key to the
same key ring as your car key.
Pilfer safeguard
In order to install an ELM 611-...
with the necessary manipulation
security, we recommend using a
pilfer safeguard controller
DSC 602-... In conjunction with
pilfer safeguard accessory
ZDS 601-..., the ELM 611-... can only
be manipulated if considerable force
is used.
Installation
Range
The conductor network laid
throughout the complete network
must not exceed 2000 m. Loop
resistance (forward and return line
between ELM 611-... and EC 602-...)
must not exceed 20 Ohm. With a
core diameter of 0.8 mm, this results
in a range of appr. 250 m.
The voltage supply to the Vario bus
components is routed via a separate
transformer TR 602-...
Steps must be taken to ensure that
the supply voltage never drops
below 9 V AC at any any unit at
maximum current consumption.
In conjunction with Siedle door
intercom systems, certain ranges
between the door loudspeaker and
line rectifier or between the door
loudspeaker and in-house telephone
must be observed. For more details,
see the planning and installation
guidelines for door and in-house
telephone communication.
Conductor material
Telecommunication cables must be
used for installation on the bus side

tors, shielded, 0.8 mm

Operating Instructions
To ensure reliable function, the
ELM 611-... must be built into the
mounting frame, as this serves as an
aerial for the device.
The maximum reading distance
between ELM 611-... and EK 601-...
is 25 mm, and between ELM 611-...
and EKC 601-... 80 mm.
Ideally, the EKC/EK 601-... will be
detected if as much as possible of its
surface area is facing the unit when
passed in front of the ELM 611-...
On the right next to the key symbol
of the ELM 611-... there are two
LEDS which provide information on
the operating status and function of
the ELM 611-...
