3. Always apply pressure in a straight line with the bit. Use
enough pressure to keep the drill biting but not so much as to
deflect the bit or stall the motor. To minimize stalling on
breaking through the material, reduce pressure on the drill and
ease the bit through the last part of the hole.
4. In some cases it will be to your advantage to use a screw
lubricant when driving screws. Just put a little bar soap or liquid
detergent on the threads.
DRILLING IN WOOD
Holes in wood can be made with the same twist drills used for
metal. These bits must be sharp and pulled out frequently to clear
chips from the flutes. Work that is apt to splinter should be backed
up with a block of wood. Let up on the pressure just before the tip
cuts through to produce a good clean hole.
DRILLING IN METAL
Use a cutting lubricant when drilling metal. The exceptions are
cast iron and brass which should be drilled dry.
Chuck Removal
Put control lever in lock-off position.
Tighten the chuck around the shorter end of a hex wrench (not
supplied) of 1/4" or greater size. Using a soft hammer or piece of
wood, strike the longer end in the "clockwise" direction, as shown in
Figure 7. This will loosen the screw inside the chuck.
Open chuck jaws fully, insert screwdriver (or Torx tool if required)
into front of chuck between jaws to engage screw head. Remove
screw by turning clockwise (left-hand-thread). Place hex wrench in
chuck as shown in Figure 8. Using a wooden mallet or similar
object, strike wrench sharply in the ''counterclockwise'' direction.
This will loosen the chuck so that it can be unscrewed by hand.

1. Screw the chuck onto the tool spindle in a clockwise direction
as far as it will go.
2. Tighten the chuck around the short end of a 1/4" or larger hex
wrench.
3 Using a wooden mallet or similar object, strike the wrench
sharply in a clockwise direction, as shown in Figure 7.
4. Open the chuck jaws fully and insert the screw into the center
of the drill spindle. Tighten securely, turning counterclockwise
