Installation and operating instructions
GB
Ecocirc D5 solar DC pump
1 Notes
The installation and operating instructions in this manual must be followed during installation and operation.
Please read them carefully. We recommend that you keep the installation and operating instructions close to
the pump. Particular attention must be paid to notes marked as follows:
If this instruction is not followed, personal safety risks could ensue.
!
If this instruction is not followed, the device may not function properly and could be damaged.
WARNING
Other relevant regulations are also to be observed, e.g. accident prevention regulations or the internal operating
and safety instructions of the system manufacturer. Failure to follow these instructions can result in the loss of
all entitlement to claim damages.
2 General Description
The DC pumps from the D5 solar series have an electronically commutated voltage-adjustable permanent-
magnet ball motor (having a voltage range of 8-24 V) with a very high level of efficiency. They are available
with various pump housings and are especially suited for direct operation on 12 V photovoltaic modules (in
combination with solar heating systems, for example). In particular, D5 solar features:
2.1 Automatic Power Output Optimization (MPP Tracking)
D5 solar automatically varies its operating point along the voltage/current curve of the supplying photovoltaic
module every three seconds until the optimal power output (speed) is reached (see Figure 2.1). This is known
as the Maximum Power Point (MPP). An additional, external power output control is not required because D5
solar sets itself to maximal possible power output automatically when sunlight is detected.
2.2 Automatic Soft Start
D5 solar is programmed for soft start. If enough power from the photovoltaic module is available, the rotor will
be moved into starting position. The processor will start once the integrated condenser is sufficiently charged.
This reduces frequent cycling before startup and allows the processor to start with very low power output
(approximately 1 W).
2.3 Intelligent Overtemperature Protection
D5 solar has integrated overtemperature protection that deactivates the pump to protect electronics. Both the
temperature of the pumping medium and the self-generated heat (= speed of the pump) cause the temperature
of electronics to rise. Since deactivating the pump in the event of overtemperature can lead to unwanted
results for the connected solar heating systems, the processor automatically reduces the speed before maximum
temperature is reached to avoid complete deactivation if possible. If the temperature reaches approximately
95°C at maximum speed, the pump deactivates completely. When the temperature has fallen, the pump will
start automatically.
2.4 Integrated Radio Interface Suppression and Polarity Reversal Protection
D5 is shielded and protected against short-circuiting resulting from the inversion of the DC connection poles.
