Installation and operating instructions
for PTFE-Expansion Joints and
rubber expansion joints with PTFE-lining

STENFLEX
PTFE expansion joints and rubber expansion joints with PTFE-lining can only
work properly if they are installed according to good professional practice. Their service life
depends not only on the operating conditions, but primarily on whether they are installed
correctly. Expansion joints are not simple pipe elements, but moveable parts that have to
be checked regularly.
Expansion joints are special pipeline system components. STENFLEX
guarantee for reproduced products or modifications of the original products.
To avoid installation errors, please observe the following instructions under conside-
ration of the technical dimension diagrams in our catalogue.
CAUTION: FAILURE to comply may lead to the destruction of the expansion joint,
personal injuries, or environmental damage.

Installation
Store the expansion joint in a clean and dry place. If stored outdoors, protect it from
direct sunlight and weather factors.
Prior to installation, make sure the packaging and the expansion joint are not damaged.
In case of damage of any kind, the product should not be installed.
Keep the inside and the outside of the expansion joint clear of foreign objects (e. g.
contamination, insulating material, etc.), and check this before and after installation.
Only remove the transport locking devices and protective cover(s) immediately before
installation.
The expansion joints may only be installed by authorised and qualified personnel. The
applicable accident prevention regulations must be observed.
Do not throw the expansion joint or knock against it; protect it from falling objects. Do
not connect any chains or ropes directly to the bellows.
Make sure the installation gap is long enough for installing the expansion joint under
consideration of its admissible movement absorption.
During installation, make sure the bores of the pipeline flanges are flush. If necessary,
readjust the rotatable flanges at the expansion joint.
The sealing surfaces of the flanges must be even and clean.
For connections to sensitive components such as glass, ceramics, or enamel, we re-
commend using an approx. 5 mm thick elastic PTFE seal.
When using through screws, mind the screw length. To avoid damaging the bellows,
make sure the screw bolts do not protrude beyond the nut.
The sealing surfaces of the companion flanges must be perfectly even and clean in the
sealing area. The sealing edge-flange of the expansion joint must rest on the companion
flange all over.
