MVS 6 PTC thermistor triggering
device
Area of use and operating characteristics
(intended use)
The device has been manufactured according
to directive 2014/34/EU.
The MVS 6 PTC thermistor triggering device is a
safety and control device in accordance with Art. 1
(2) of directive 2014/34/EU for equipment and
protective systems in areas subject to explosion
hazards. The triggering system must be installed
outside the area subject to explosion hazards.
Our EC-Conformity Declaration accompanies this
manual.
Area of use
The triggering system is used for monitoring the
temperature of three-phase a. c. motors, which
are intended for use in areas subject to explosion
hazards and are classified as group II, categories
2G or 2D devices. The system is also suitable for
protecting other three-phase a. c. devices against
overheating, assuming that these devices have
PTC thermistors and have similar switching
characteristics to three-phase a. c. motors. The
correct selection of protective systems for the
corresponding application is the responsibility of
the operator.
The MVS 6 System can also be used for the
operational switching on and off of the connected
motor. The switch on the front of the housing can
be locked in the „off" position by using a padlock.
Protective functions
The thermistor triggering device separates a
connected motor from the power supply
– if the thermistors installed in the motor over-
heat,
– if there is a short-circuit in the thermistor cir-
cuitry,
– if there is a cable break in the thermistor cir-
cuitry,
– if there is loss of power on all three phases.
As soon as the protection system is activated, the
green operating indicator light on the underside
of the device goes out.
4
The connected motor does not start up again
automatically once all fault causes have been
resolved. It has to be turned back on manually,
due to the presence of an auto-restart block.
This device may not be used:
– as a current-based, time-delayed overload pro-
tection, or
– as a protection against the consequences of a
single phase dropping out.
It is not allowed to operate several motors
connected in parallel to one triggering system.
Temperatures
Permitted ambient temperature:
see the rating plate.

General notes regarding safety

Read the complete instructions carefully before
you install and put the PTC thermistor triggering
device into operation.
Storing the instructions
After assembly, store the instructions of each PTC
thermistor triggering device. A copy of the rating
plate can be found on the rear of the operating
instructions. The serial number is located at the
bottom right corner of the rating plate.
Obligations of the assembler and the operator:
We would like to draw to your attention that
additional safety regulations, such as directive
1999/92/EG and national regulations regarding
the accident prevention, must be adhered to
when assembling and operating the PTC ther-
mistor triggering device.
During assembly, heed the valid installation
regulations, e.g. VDE 0100, EN 60079-14,
EN 50281-1-2 and EN 61241-14.
MAICO accepts no liability for damages caused
by non-authorised use.
