HARACTERISTICS
Electronic high-security switch harness
Compact, lightweight unit
SMT technology: low-wear, vibration-resistant
High-quality gold-plated connector systems and large cable cross-
sections
High continuous current capacity
SAFETY-SWITCH 12: two receiver leads provide twice the conductor
cross-section and twice the number of connector contacts.
The switch harness is a vital link in the receiver power supply chain, and
has important safety implications. Conventional harnesses based on
mechanical switches constitute a safety hazard due to possible failure
caused by ageing (vibration, wear, corrosion) at the switch contacts after
a long period of use. At the same time the requirements placed on switch
harnesses are constantly becoming more stringent due to the power
requirements of modern, high-performance servos. Many conventional,
mechanical switches are not capable of satisfying these requirements.
The receiver battery is connected directly to the circuit board of the
SAFETY-SWITCH. The unit is connected to the receiver by a short, direct
conductor without any mechanical switching element. The switching
function is carried out by vibration-resistant, failure-proof high-perfor-
mance FETs, which exhibit very low internal resistance compared with
mechanical switches. High-quality gold-plated contacts and large cable
cross-sections finally enable the servos to develop their full performance.
A mechanical slide switch acts as the ON/OFF switching element, but all
it does is provide the ON/OFF switching signal, i.e. the load current does
not flow through it. The switch can be installed in any easily accessible
position in the model.

NSTALLING AND
MULTIPLEX SAFETY-SWITCH 6 / 12
1. Mount the SAFETY-SWITCH 6 or SAFETY-SWITCH 12 safety switch
harness in the model in a position where it is subject to as little
vibration and shock load as possible.
2. Connect the twin-core UNI lead (RX) to the receiver socket marked
"Batt".
SAFETY-SWITCH 12: Connect the second UNI lead (RX) to any
other vacant servo socket at the receiver.
! Note
When connecting the UNI lead(s) (RX), ensure that the connector is
the right way round. If you are using products of another make, check
that the pin assignments are compatible:
3. Install the mechanical ON/OFF switch in the model in any conve-
nient position, protected as far as possible from accidental operation.
4. Connect the NiXX battery pack (4 - 5 cells) to the socket on the
SAFETY-SWITCH marked BATT. Once again, take care to maintain
correct polarity:
SAFETY-SWITCH 6 connector system: MULTIPLEX MP-RC.
Matching products: MP-RC battery lead, # 8 5102 or MP 3-pin
socket, # 8 5225
SAFETY-SWITCH 12 connector system: M6 plug. Matching
product: M6 socket, # 8 5214
5. Switch your transmitter ON, then switch the receiving system power
supply ON using the ON/OFF switch element of the SAFETY-
SWITCH. To switch off, first operate the ON/OFF switch element of
the SAFETY-SWITCH, then switch the transmitter off.
! Note
If necessary, you can extend the lead to the mechanical ON/OFF slide
switch to any length you wish.

! Note
If a fault should develop in the slide switch or its cable, the electronic
circuit maintains the last active switched state, i.e. either OFF or ON.
! Note
We recommend the use of the SAFETY-SWITCH 6 in models fitted
with up to six standard servos or four digital / high-performance
servos. The SAFETY-SWITCH 12 should be used with more servos.

! Note
* The stated idle current flows when the mechanical slide switch is at the
OFF position. For this reason it is always best to disconnect the receiver
battery from the SAFETY-SWITCH if the model is to be stored for a long
period. This avoids the danger of deep-discharging the receiver battery.
