General info for all SKALT
harnassbelts
The SKALT range includes three different harnesses.
For any possible type of work performed at height,
there is always a suitable SKALT harness. The SKALT
Base is a harness for occasional use. For people who
regularly perform work at height the comfortable SKALT
Propad is the right choice. The SKALT Expert is the
harness for those specialists who regularly spend long
periods suspended in their harness or may have to
carry out a rescue operation for instance.
Working with fall protection always asks a lot of skills and
knowledge from the worker at height. Therefore it is
advisable to follow a specifi c SKALT training. For training-
program, visit www.SKALT.nl/training
The safe use of fall protection can only be guaranteed when
the guidelines of this user manual are strictly followed.
All SKALT harnesses consists of a system of straps of very
strong material around the shoulders and legs. Thus the
liberated powers that occur in a fall will be divided over the
whole body.
All harnesses are equipped with a D-ring on the back and the
front, onto which a lanyard or a rope block can be fastened. It
is important to check if the D-rings are positioned between
the shoulder blades at the back and the middle of the chest
on the front . If not, you will probably have the wrong size;
otherwise the harness has not been adjusted correctly. The
choice of connecting to the D- ring on the back or the chest
depends completely of the work environment and the
circumstances.
In general it is wise to connect fall protection at the D-ring at
the back, due to the fact that the human body is able to
absorb the energy best. When climbing or during rope access
it is preferable to use the front D-ring. Make sure that the fall
length will not be more than 0.5 meter.
Inspection and point to verify
• Every year fall protection needs to be examined by a
competent inspector. Check www.SKALT.nl for your local
inspection company.
• Before each use, check the webbing at the
adjustmentspoints and the buckels and check the stitches.
Look for cuts in the webbing, wear and damage due to
heat, chemicals or use.
• When putting on the belt, check the proper closing of the
buckels by, after the closing, fi rmly pull both sides of the
buckels in opposite directions.
• A harness must be replaced by a new one after a fall,
since it is impossible to check the extent of the damage to
the fabric.
• After reject, If a belt is withdrawn, due to the reasons
mentioned above, destroy the belt to prevent further use
• The lifetime of a belt depends dramatically on the way it is
being used. Heavy use, chemicals, or extreme weather
conditions will have a lot of impact on the belt. The
potential life time of SKALT products is 10 years after the
manufacturing date.
All SKALT belts are designed to have easy access to the belt.
Therefore all belts have the same 'click 1-2-3' system,
meaning there are only three points to close on every belt, one
between the shoulderstrap and two at the legloops. Always do
the 'click 1-2-3' check, to avoid hazardous situations
