Resetting
The counter can be reset either by pressing the reset pushbutton or by
applying a pneumatic signal to connection Y.
Note: The resetting process (connection Y) must be properly
completed before Z is switched in again.
Input Signals
The following forms of signal source for the count pulses (input Z) and
the reset pulses (input Y) can be used:
Mechanically operated valves
Manually operated valves
Pneumatically operated valves
Electrically operated valves
Sensors (transducers)
Or general pneumatic signals, provided they are in the correct
range of pressure and in the correct range of counting rate.
The count, or the reset operation is by applying pressure to the
corresponding input (Z or Y respectively) and releasing it again (3/2-
way functioning).
Pneumatic resetting can only be carried out with no air pressure on the
Z line. Any count pulses which arrive while the resetting signal is
present will not be detected or counted.
Connections
Each digit of the preset count figure can be set independently.
Setting of adding predetermining counters
Turn white lever as shown by the arrow and hold it. Set the desired
figures with the corresponding keys. Release white lever.
Pneumatic Preset, Predetermining Counter with
Automatic repeat
This counter, with automatic repeat, gives a pneumatic output signal
once the preset count is reached and then automatically resets to start
counting again.
Applications
The preset, predetermining counter with automatic repeat is used
primarily in pneumatically controlled machines and equipment. This
enables control or counting problems to be solved directly in
pneumatics, giving considerable engineering advantages and cost
benefits.
Particularly in explosion risk areas, pneumatic control systems are
often the only type of control systems which can be used, as electrical
impulse counters are often not permitted.

The technical data quoted are average values on standard production
models. Deviations, within limits, from these figures are to be expected.
All dimensions, technical data and other information represent
production conditions and the state of our knowledge at the time of
going to print. The operating characteristics of the equipment relate to
the equipment when new, under normal conditions of use (+15° to
+25°C, non-aggressive (non-corrosive) environments and neutral air
supply).
At temperatures below +5°C precautions should be taken to prevent
icing.
Predetermining Counter
The hoses used must be of precise calibrated outside diameter in
accordance with the BS5409: The RS standard 4mm nylon tube is
manufactured to these tolerances.

Note: Take care to ensure that only calibrated hoses are used, that
they have been cut exactly at right-angles, and that the hose is
pushed right into the socket as far as it will go.
