HC-CARGO Compressor Tester
With the new HC-CARGO compressor tester, you
can now test the functionality of your compres-
sor and possible failures in three easy steps.
Content:
1 x Hand held compressor tester unit
1 x Power leads and wire harness set
1 x Multiple adapter/connector set for various
European applications and universal
How to connect your HC-CARGO compressor
tester
1. Connect the tester unit to a 12-14 DC Volt
power supply (i.e. the car's battery)
2. Disconnect the wire harness from the
compressor plug of the ECU circuit
3. Find the adapter and connector which match
the car application and connect this to the
compressor plug and output of the ECU circuit.
The HC-CARGO tester is now connected in series
with the ECU wire harness
4. Connect the pressure manifold gauges i.e.
your A/C recover, recycle, recharge machine
in order to see the pressure in the A/C system
during the test.
How to use the HC-CARGO
compressor tester
1st step – Check the resistance of the control
valve
Check the resistance of the control valve for
malfunctioning to ensure the resistance is within
the acceptable and normal tolerance 10 - 14 Ω.
1. Press the 'Check Resistance' button on the
testing unit
2nd step – Normal mode: Check the pulse wide
signal from the ECU to the compressor
By checking the pulse width signal from the
ECU to the compressor, you can verify if the
compressor's control valve receives the right
signals.
1. Turn on the engine
2. Turn on the A/C system at the lowest working
temperature
3. Press the 'Normal/Manual mode' button
and select normal mode on the testing unit. To
check the pulse width signal, you then have to
regulate the climate in the car, the % is shown
on the HC-CARGO testing unit
• Less % duty cycle reading = Less A/C
demand = Low pressure
• High % duty cycle reading = High A/C
demand = High pressure
NB. In some cases where you cannot measure
the signal, it might be necessary to switch
the wire in the adapter/connector or use the
universal adapter/connector
3rd step – Manual mode: Check the function
of the compressor manually
To check whether the compressor is functioning
to its full potential or has been damaged, you
can manually check the compressor by pressing
the button 'normal/manual mode' on the
HC-CARGO testing unit
1. Turn on the engine
2. Turn on the A/C system at the lowest working
temperature
3. After pressing the 'normal/manual mode' and
select manual mode button, you can manually
provide a pulse width signal in % by pressing on
the up (+) /down (-) buttons on the HC-CARGO
unit.
• Less % duty cycle reading = Less A/C
demand = Low pressure
• High % duty cycle reading = high A/C
demand = High pressure
NB: HIGH PRESSURE WARNING!
Please be aware that the high side pressure can
increase during the testing of the compressor in
manual mode – making it important to always
observe the A/C system temperatures and
pressures during the testing phase. Furthermore
a quick start-up of the vehicle's control fan/
fans can interrupt correct testing of the control
valve on the compressor.
Maximum pressure while testing: 20 bar
